This book is a MUST read for anyone with Deconstructionist or Discordian views. It is a comic book, but don't let others opinions of comics and their content sway you. This is no juvenile super-hero in tights smash-em-up for 23 pages. The Invisibles is about subversion of the status quo, deconstruction of patterned and controlled thought and trying to make sure everyone benefits from the end of the world. This book could hold some very real changes of perception for you. As the young Dane McGowan/Jack Frost is initiated into the Invisibles, so are you, given small tidbits that the reality we're all being held to is only that way because it benefits others for you to see reality in this light. You create your reality, this book can and will show you that. There are large and sinister forces behind a lot of very shady dealings in government, business, entertainment, etc., not just in the U.S., but in the world. Don't take my word for it, start looking around, question aut! ! hority and what you see on TV, you might start to see what I mean. Grant Morrison has an eye that sees past all of this. If you really get into the Invisibles, it will seem like you're being let in on a very big secret. Admittedly, it can be a very cryptic and challenging read at times, but if you're willing to put in some effort, and research this work outside of this collection or the monthly issues, you may just start to find and see "the big secret" I've described. This book could change your life, and may start us all on the road to true physical and spiritual freedom.

Now what to say about that comic except that it is the most outrageous, extravagant, fabulous, inspiring, weird one my eyes have ever come across? It is mind-opening, referring to so many cultures and subcultures it is difficult to imagine the level of creativity the author has access to, and it really seems to me that he is not joking when he talks about hypersigils and their tremendous influence on his life/work. As someone before me asked, isn't there anything more than 5 stars? This comic is just extraordinary, it's one heaven&hell of a comic, meaning it's capable of sending you up and down 'n' around the realms of anything you believe is 'truth'. If YOU are ready for that trip and let it happen.. the more confusing, disillusioning, disturbing the trip might get, the deeper the mystic revelation might be. In fact you want to know: yes, this comic series resembles a drug experience, it is really a journey of awakening.

In a way, the comic deals with the methods of mind control and civil disobedience in early 21st century. Scared white men exploiting the mass of the people. They are acting cunningly and without any qualms. They use their economic and political, military, medicinal and media power to oppress those who are ridden by their desire to conform and to obey. Why do we obey, how do we conform? We obey our desires and we react to our greedy patterns not knowing how to get a grip, not knowing how to get in touch with ourselves and others, but mostly we lose contact with ourselves. We act foolishly because our desires are created by our minds. We do not know our mind. Thus, it proves to be quite a simple procedure for a planetary ever-more machine-like corporate industrial conglomerate consisting of media, pharmaceutical medicine, military, and other well-established brainwashing institiutions of our present society, it is quite simple for this complex structure to influence what we like/don't like and how we discern humanity according to our likes/dislikes. So in a way, it also deals with ourselves (our 'selfing' process) and how we perceive ourselves and the world we live in, how we create the world we think we live in by habitual though-speech-patterns. I could go on, but to no avail: Please read yourself and Enjoy the adventures of King Mob, Fanny, Boy, Robin and Jack!!!

Grant Morrison about his work: "My own comic book series The Invisibles was a six-year long sigil in the form of an occult adventure story which consumed and recreated my life during the period of its composition and execution. The hypersigil is an immensely powerful and sometimes dangerous method for actually altering reality in accordance with intent. Results can be remarkable and shocking."

It's brash, it's trippy, it's violent, and it's very, very literate. Grant Morrison has definitely pushed the envelope of comic-book storytelling with this one. With fascinating, well-drawn (pun intended) characters, a tight narrative, and references I still don't get after the third read, it's a great read. Beware- this isn't for the narrow-minded.

Who needs LSD?
Time travel, anarchy, and cameos by everyone from John Lennon to John the Baptist. A safe, unnatural high.

Great book, but where is the rest of the story?
I love this book. When I finished reading it, it seemed incomplete though. Then I learned through the diehard fanbase that it is actually part of a larger piece that has not been... Lesen Sie weiter...

Isn't there anything higher than 5 stars?
I used to think I hated comics, then I read The Invisibles on a dare. Now I own every issue. Ultrahip, ultracool, and ultraweird!

Essentially, it's what would happen if Quentin Tarantino, Oliver Stone, and Robert Anton Wilson were to have a few drinks and then write a comic book together
