The story is simple: Benjamin Sword Hoppner is one of the richest men imaginable, and he made and makes his money by selling pornography. However, he is also an ardent moralist who has developed a moral code of his own and set up a model community on a tiny, troubled South American island. Now he is offering to give up to 5m dollar, unconditionally, to anyone who can convince him of their fundamental goodness. Mark Weston, a young man with a secret in his past, thinks this is an opportunity too good to be missed. Travelling to the island to defraud what he thinks is a naive philantropist, he soon finds himself in a mixed group of other fortune seekers. In Hoppner's viruous paradise, they have to face a "moral test", only to find out that virtue can be both frightening and ultimately lethal.
The book is nice entertainment, though I find it not quite as riveting as "The Mind Game". Still, it makes for good holiday reading, with a couple of ethical points that give you some food for thought. Good value for money, on the whole.
