Jenkins book is very good from the standpoint of understanding what is possible. Whether or not you wish to be this up-front in the handling of human waste is another question. His most important contribution however, is his analytical approach to the composting process. He explodes some myths about mixing compost to make it work, and shows how to create good compost quickly. He readily admits that he repeats himself in the book. This is true. The essence of this 195 page book could have easily been done in 75 pages. A useful book, and one that will give you the courage to do your own composting, even if you don't compost human waste.

When I first read this book, I laughed a lot. I grew up near Barkeyville and am currently living near Los Angeles, CA. After showing this book to several of my friends, I realize LaLa Land is not ready to get this practical. But, they are softening. Thank you for giving me the means to show my friends how life doesn't have to be so sterile to be healthful.

If you eat (therefore defecate), a must read .......
So much "fecophobia" has driven our society that this is
(pardon the expression) a breath of fresh air. I can't say
enough about the big picture approach Jenkins displays
when discussing resourch recovery. Grandma said "what's
taken from the earth, should go back" and can be easily and
inexpensively started with thinking such as this book.

I can personally attest (I wish I could leave my Email add.)
to the simplicity of Jenkins' system. In the wheel of life
it has helped to close the circle.........

This book is informative, well researched and solicits a needed paradigm shift for our culture. I recomend this book highly to anyone who eats. However I found the author's dealing with Christianity to be incomplete. He confuses some (okay most) "Christains" with the precepts of Biblical teaching. As a Christain I find his recomendations to be in line the biblical teachings of stewardship and considering others more important than oneself. The author comes just short of blaming Christianity for the worlds sewage. Even with this said I beleive this book should be read and acted upon by every Christain. Not because we should worship the earth but because it is a gift of God and is therefore precious. I also found the book to be somewhat repetative. I found this to help with the teaching value of the book but it adversely effected the enjoyment of the read. The author should be highly praised for the thoroughness of his research and for his courage to say what needs to be said. Do not let my criticisms disuade you. EVERYONE SHOULD READ THIS BOOK!!! With the exception of his treatment of Christianity, I say well done Mr. Jenkins.
