I wrote this book to pass along the knowledge that was taught to me in the hills of Kentucky over 25 years ago. Along the way though I developed my own style. I boiled down what I learned and moved it indoors. I’ve developed designs that can be used right in the comfort of you own kitchen or out back in the woods! The truth is that Moonshining, aka “Home Distilling” is a folk art that helped build this country. Together we can make it live again, and have a little fun in the process!

“But isn’t this dangerous” you ask. Cooking up spirits isn’t any harder then properly roasting a Thanksgiving turkey. In fact it’s so easy that a redneck like me can do it. And folks if I can do it, then imagine what you might be able to create! Imagine the holidays when you pull out your own special label. Think of the drinks and dishes you can concoct. Open up a whole new world of creativity and step into the hobby that is truly one of the founding traditions of our country.

There are dozens of reasons why people look into home distilling. Maybe you are looking for a new culinary branch to explore, maybe you just like the idea of knowing how to do things for yourself, perhaps you just like to keep the old ways alive or maybe you are just tired of our government telling us what we can and can not do!

In this book I will show you how easy and safe this hobby really is. This book is designed for the beginner distiller and I take the time to introduce you to all the concepts of distilling that you need to get started. One of the great thing about distilling is that you can keep it simple or as get as complicated as you could possible want. This journey is all about where you want to take it.

Please be advised that this is for informational purposes only. After you read this you will understand just how easy it is to make your own Moonshine, Whiskey, Vodka, Rum or even alternative fuels. Then once you understand how easy this is, how safe and how stupid the laws that restrict this are, then you can contact your congressman and/or senator and tell them to repeal the laws that are only in place to protect big businesses. Believe it or not there are Moonshiners everywhere, we have a grand tradition that goes back to the first settlers. Many historians will even tell you that it was moonshine that built this country!

It's time to take back our heritage. Thank you for your support!

Jeff King

MB is a program in Amazon where, if the publisher enables it (And we have!), you get the kindle version for a discounted price. How discounted? Well at FOIPub we think FREE is the right answer to that question. Our view is that you have purchased a "License" for the book. You paid for it right? It is also why there is no DRM (Digital Rights Management). DRM is used to stop people from copying media from one device to another. Mainly to stop media pirates from stealing an author's work. Our take at FOIPub is that we don't just assume that our readers are thieves like some publisher do! And lets face it, honest folk will pay for good content and thieves never were going to pay for it in the first place. Its why we call them thieves right? So if you are a customer please know that we honor and respect your choice to pay for our content. If you are a thief, what can I say, hope you like your Karma!

A true entrepreneur Jeff has lead business endeavors that include importing Art from Bali, Running a Video Game studio, PR for a top Silicon Valley marketing firm and even a brief run for local office as well as starting over half a dozen other small businesses, some successful and others that were more of a, well, "learning experience". But it's what he does when he's not in the office that really makes for an exciting tale. If there is a sense of adventure or uncharted waters ahead you can be sure that he is the first to sign up. From learning the art of Moonshining in the hills of Kentucky to getting lost in the jungles of Central America, fly fishing the Yellowstone river in Montana, white water rafting in the Sierra's or even single handing a sloop through the islands of the Caribbean.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Very Thorough! 8. Februar 2011

I read this book last night. One of my friends has offerred to show me the ropes of distillation. The author seems to know a lot about this topic and it shows. In this book, he discusses the different types of distilling, the equipment needed when buying or making your own and the methodologies for producing the results. He offers up shopping lists, pictures and links to sites that can also be helpful. He does all of this with a charming style and a sense of humor.

He also offers some VERY important tips that prevent problems you would encounter if you were trying to just figure out on your own.

He includes some recipes - that include the ratios needed to produce product. Recipes for things like Whisky, Grappa, Scotch, Schnapps and Fuit Liquors.

He even tells you how to prevent your spirits from being "off".

I'll still be glad for personal instruction, but this book sure has helped me get ready for it and will be a great reference tool.

After reading this book, I decided not to do distillation for personal reasons. The book helped me make my decision by being comprehensive, descriptive, and well written. No number of websites could help me with this decision... this book was well worth the price.

If you do have a genuine desire to distil spirits I HIGHLY recommend this book. Previous reviews mentioned a problem with diagrams (and the author addressed this in their comments), but my more recent purchase of this book had ALL diagrams present and detailed.

I want to thank the author for providing a timely revision of your best selling information.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Good Overview 29. September 2011

I think this book is a good overview on distilling. It is informative and not boring (at least not to me. The only issue that I had was that it refers to about 15 diagrams throughout but there are only 4 diagrams and they are not numbered. I considered giving only 3 stars because of this but since this book was so inexpensive, I though that maybe I was asking too much of it. In any case, I enjoyed it.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Affordable, Tasty, Homemade Spirits. 2. November 2013

This is a good book, for beginners looking to make there own spirits. My State has the highest tax on liquor in the country. After buying this book I have saved a ton of money. I rarely ever buy liquor at the store anymore. So it was definitely worth $5. Having said that some of the recipes are off. The recipe for tequila calls for 32oz of blue agave for every gallon of mash. 32oz might be right if you were making 6 to 8 gallons of mash. The recipes I've had the greatest success with are whiskey and moonshine. The whiskey I make is pretty much moonshine with aged oak chip flavored water added to it. I just cook the oak chips in my oven, fill up a jar with water, add the chips, stick them in my fridge and let them age. Once I've made a batch of moonshine, I poor some in a jar, add some oak chip flavored water, filter it with a carbon filtered britta water filter, then presto I got a decent tasting whiskey with out too much waiting time. Moonshine is extremely easy to make, but you have to have a lot of time on your hands to make it. I usually make a gallon at a time which require you to make about 8 gallons of mash. distilling all that mash is an all day thing. You can buy stills on EBAY. I recommend the one that comes with a fish tank pump. The fish tank pump recirculates the water, so you don't have use a lot of water. I bought a 2 gallon still, then when I got good, I used that design to make a larger 5 gallon still on my own. Anyway, I'm going to stop making alcohol now, I gave both my stills away to a friend. I just don't have the time anymore. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a rewarding, yet time consuming, hobby and shares a love for affordable, tasty, homemade spirits.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Nice tutorial to get you started 4. September 2013

I purchased this book and read through it a few times the first night. It's put to you in plain language, and unlike many other books on the topic, doesn't try to get too technical in details about the chemical and physical changes that your alcohol goes through in order to become actual alcohol. It reads well, and you can follow along. Plus, being short and to the point, it's a great reference as well.

I am in the process of getting my supplies together to try my hand at distilling, and I know this book will help make sure that my first effort is a success.

If you're completely baffled by the prospect of attempting distillation yourself, you need to own this book. It's not going to make you an expert distiller to where you can find employment with Jim Beam or Jack Daniels, but you'll definitely be able to grasp the concept and master the very basics by the time you finish reading.

The Facebook page the author runs is a huge bonus and you can expand your knowledge in a friendly environment. There are no "dumb" questions, and everybody is willing to pitch in with advice.

A simple rule of thumb for this is to throw away the first 50 mL (reflux still) you collect (per 20 L mash used), or 100-200 mL from a pot still. "e;

Conical will allow the steam to escape easier, less reflux, more flavor. A flat surface will present more of a barrier and produce more contact. More reflux, less flavor. Round will give you something in-between. "e;

Blue Flame Test! Take one teaspoon of shine and put a flame to it. If it burns with an even, consistent, blue flame its good to drink. If it is yellow or sputters its bad and you need to run it through the still again. "e;
