Bücher über Albumcover sind natürlich immer subjektiv zu beurteilen. Was der eine als schön empfindet, ist für den anderen vielleicht eine Ausgeburt an Hässlichkeit. Was aber fast alle Coverbücher gemeinsam haben, ist der Fokus auf bekannte Bands. Würde sich hier mal jemand (wie es Michael Ochs teilweise getan hat) wirklich "durchwühlen" könnten in solchen Büchern wahre Meisterwerke auftauchen. So bleibt ein leidlich interessantes Nachschlagewerk übrig, das man nicht unbedingt braucht.

In diesem Buch sich die "guten" Covers vereint. Die zahlreichen Beispiele der Hüllengestaltung sind teilweise zeitlos modern und wirken nicht verstaubt. Die anderen Hüllen spiegeln den Zeitgeist wieder, was ja auch nicht so "leicht" ist. Für alle die sich der schönen Kunst des Gestaltens angezogen fühlen - kaufen.

Finding a lot of albums that I had forgotten about and many more that I never knew about. Already marked a couple pages with albums I want to hunt for. One thing though - the book I got has a different dust cover than the one pictured. The design is the same but many of the album covers depicted are different. No big deal, but it makes me wonder if the book I got is an older or newer version.

The Greatest? REALLY?????

This book seems to be the greatest album covers that the authors could get rights to use. Is the Ohio Player's Fire (featuring an oiled-up woman sensuously holding a fire hose) a greater cover than Led Zeppelin IV? An album cover or Bjork staring at the camera is greater than Aerosmith's Toys in the Attic or Pump?
This book has a few interesting facts (like if you really want to know who's crotch is featured on the Rolling Stone's Sticky Fingers), but otherwise was not all that great.
