"The master of assassin novels, Vince Flynn, now has serious competition." - Librarian review

"If you like Clive Cussler, Matthew Reilly or Daniel Silva you will like this book, it had me gripped from page one and the ending is truly exciting."

“Well-written, and there is much in it of history, adventure, and suspense.” - The Writer’s Edge

Frank Murdoch lives on a remote private island in Alaska, drawn there by its peace and isolation. There he finds a secret, unearthed from a cave sealed for seven decades. His historical research attracts Abby Sinclair, a lovely archaeologist. But it also catches the attention of Mok Don, chaebol leader and Korean Mafia kingpin. Frank Murdoch-crab fisherman and ex-CIA assassin-is back on his island with Abby, but Mok Don is closing in. Now the island's peace and quiet is threatened by the clash of one man's greed and another's love.

An ex-CIA assassin who seeks redemption.
A beautiful archaeologist.
A treasure hoard on a remote Alaskan island.
A Korean billionaire who unleashes his ruthless killers to get what he wants.
Can a Bering Sea crab fisherman use survival skills from his past to save his friends and son?

"Prepare for a wild and wooly ride. You will encounter not only the sea’s deadliest wave, but also adventure, suspense, murder, treasure, and romance. This is the type of story where you forget to breathe. Cussler, Grisham, Clancy, and Ludlum have attracted enormous readerships to the mystery/adventure genre. I’ve read most of their books—The Golden Catch compares favorably with any of them. .. Tie yourself down ‘cause you’re in for a heck of a ride.” Jeff Tickson, Alive Communications

“Provocative and intriguing” L. Fox

“The details of history, culture, and treasure are quite interesting, and make for a fascinating backdrop to this action-adventure.” Livia Montana

“Exotic setting, fast pacing, coherent plot, and a strong protagonist.” P. Palmer

For anyone who can’t get enough of Ludlum, Cussler, or Morrell, THE GOLDEN CATCH is your next thrill ride!

2.0 von 5 Sternen great history, below standard characters 25. November 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
Somewhere in the forum there is a thread about somebody looking "for a really good read".

this title came up - in self promotion by the author and I guess it was mentioned by somebody else as well.

To tell you the truth - this is not a really good read, though it sounds like it reading what the promotional lines on the product page say.

Lets start with what was good: the historical background. I really enjoyed that and with my non-existing knowledge of the Korean dynasties I found it really interesting, particularely with the link to this "lost" treasure and the WWII tie-in. I like the setting - that remote Aleutian island, the feel of the storm and snow... The author really managed to convey a feel of that landscape, the forces of nature and the historical injustice of why this treasure came to Kiska in the first place.

About what was not so good, I don't really know where to start...

For me the most important feature of a book is THE character, the person in the story I can relate with (so to speak). I doesn't matter if this guy/ gal is the baddie or the goodie, I need to be interested...

Frank has the potential of a good character, his background and the events he gets involved it make for a good hero... but unfortunately the perils in his life, the remorse and the constant feeling sorry for himself were getting on my nerves... oi, guy. Man up! you're a killer, you can't seriously have expected this not to affect your life / your family. Deal with it.

The odd comment about this might have worked, but the author really indulges in this and made me roll my eyes. I don't feel pity for Frank, which might be deserved, or feel with him in his attempt to become a better (non-killing) person... nope, nothing.

5.0 von 5 Sternen An Adventure Worth Experiencing 23. Mai 2011

The master of assassin novels, Vince Flynn, now has serious competition. Roger Weston uses the opening paragraph, even the first sentence, to grab your attention and hold on to you till the end of the first chapter. Drawing you from the edge of your seat into the second chapter, Roger continues the exciting pace of the story, never slowing down, till he reaches the end. Frank Murdoch is the assassin with a conscience and a heart. He portrays the good and the bad in each of us, exposing our strength and weakness.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Indiana Jones eat your heart out! A darned good read. 25. November 2011
Von Diana M. Hockley - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
Roger Weston's Frank Murdock must surely be a worthy rival to Indiana Jones. Golden treasure, an assassin and an archeologist, and the baddies on their tails. This novel reads like a mature-age boys-own adventure! It is very much a man's tale but even I could understand, appreciate and enjoy it.

Although it is very bloodthirsty, I didn't find it impossible to cope with and the hunt through the dense fog, when Frank's friends and son are being stalked was a refreshing change from the usual 'dash through the city" or the deserts which most thriller writers employ. In fact, this novel is the stuff of which movies are made :)

The writing is clear and easy to read, though the ending a little abrupt for my liking but that is purely a personal preference.

Hope we see more from this author; he deserves all the accolades which will undoubtedly come his way!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Fantastic story; stands comparison with Hammond Innes 18. Januar 2012
Von AiDee - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
Sustains a high level of excitement throughout. High points are the globe-spanning story and the *exceptional* sea-based descriptions. One might expect good descriptions given the author's background. Less expected is the vivid writing of these scenes; it bears comparison with Hammond Innes. Spare, rapid-fire writing with very occasional lapses in spelling and sentence-construction - completely forgiveable at this price-point. Characters sketched out in varying levels of detail - generally plausible and engaging - and with believable dialog. The final chapter could have done with more work to flesh out the relationship interest, rather than leaving this implied. Nevertheless, a really fine piece of work overall and somewhat underpriced. Someone to watch.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Buckle your swash! 21. September 2013
Von Ignite - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Frank Murdoch and his son find a cave full of pirated Korean treasure. They are pursued by a ruthless man and his henchmen, head of a corrupt organisation. Murdoch himself has been a ruthless assassin so it's hard to warm to him as a hero. The story is very action packed and fast moving, sometimes to the extent of stretching credibility. I enjoyed the 'thrill of the chase' aspect of the story a great deal.

However, I felt the book needed a little tidying up in terms of wording but that's easily sorted. Overall though, an exciting adventure story. If you like your swash tightly buckled, it's the book for you!

5.0 von 5 Sternen The Golden Catch - amazing story with surprises and treasure from start to finish. 26. August 2013
Von WhiteCougar - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
I really enjoyed this book. Got me to the edge of my seat from the very beginning and kept me there. If you enjoy reading about sunken Japanese ships complete with old Japanese supplies from WWII, ancient treasures, volcanic caves with ancient korean battle carvings on the walls and I won't tell you what else for fear of disclosing too much of the story, then this is a must read. Kept me going all the way through the book. This is a real, honest edge of your seat read from start to finish. Grab it. You won't be sorry.....
