Dean Koontz was born in Everett, Pennsylvania, and grew up in nearby Bedford. He won an Atlantic Monthly fiction competition when he was twenty and has been writing ever since. Mr. Koontz's books are published in 38 languages. Worldwide sales total more than 175 million copies, a figure that currently increases at a rate of more than 350 million copies a year. Dean and his wife, Gerda, live in southern California.

I'm one of those people who loves to write and hates to read, but this book was brilliant, the characters were well thought of and the story line was original. Sure the whole carnival thing has been done before but with the personalities of the characters and the past being brought forth with the present made all the difference. I couldn't put the book down. Dean Koontz is an amazing author; I will only read his books, no others can keep me interested. He knows how to keep you in suspense for just the right amount of time, not giving it away too quickly and he doesn't drag on for ever like Stephen King. This book had my eyes glued to it, I could not walk away until it was done. I'd just like to say that i feel he is a very brilliant man, and talented, my whole family loves to read his books, I'd even read them twice, they are that good. I'd have to say that The Funhouse and The Key To Midnight are the best books he has ever written, although they are all well wrote.

Was a good thriller, but I give it two stars because I consider myself a God-fearing person who is a strong believer in justice, and I found it horrifying that a woman who murders a baby and then forces her own daughter to have an abortion gets away completely scot free. But overall, not one of his better pieces

This novel is 20 times more fulfilling than the movie was. It follows a girl named Ellen who has a horrifying expirience while married to a carnival owner. 20 years later she is happily married but a hardcore alcoholic who forces religion down the throats of her two children. Her oldest daughter bares the brunt of her mother's anger and it forces her to want to succumb to temptation to hurt her mother. Meanwhile Ellen's ex-husnband has brought the carnival into town and is looking to even te score

Remembered it From long ago
How do you ever forget Gunther? The book mesmerized me then, and now I recently picked it up to re-read and enjoyed every minute of it. As usual with Dean Koontz.

Its an excellent book~!!
Its a great book. I would recommend it to everyone. It shows great suspence and I never closed the book until I finished it.

A B-grade effort from Dean. His afterword does excuse the thrown-togetherness of this book. It's very predictable and rather boring actually.
