2.0 von 5 Sternen improbable story and horrible ending........... 26. Dezember 2004
Format:Taschenbuch
After reading some of Sandford's books, I've come to the following conclusion - his "Prey" books are fantastic but his Kidd and LuEllen books are boring and stupid!

This is similar to "Empress File" - someone hires Kidd and LuEllen to do something to bring someone down - in this case, to destroy the computers of a major defence company and in the process punish the company for stealing the secrets from their rival. But the book is ludicrous! After planting a few computer viruses, the company collapses, army generals are arrested for corruption....is it so easy to destroy a US defence company? I don't think so. Are US systems programmers so stupid that they can't spot a virus and trace it to its source? I don't think so!

Plus it's so blatantly obvious that Kidd and LuEllen are being set up, it's so blatantly obvious who is going to get killed, who the bad guys are, and it's so blatantly obvious that Kidd and LuEllen are being fed a load of bull by their customer. Every reader can see it - why can't the characters? When Sandford finally reveals the shocking truth at the end, he writes it as if no-one has figured it out yet - you'll find yourself sitting there thinking "oh yeah? I figured THAT out on page 10!"

Sandford should stick to writing his "Prey" books. Kidd and LuEllen should be forced into early retirement. By writing the Kidd books, Sandford is obviously writing for the lower end of the market.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Classic Standford 1. August 2000
Format:Taschenbuch
While not up to the excellence of his later novels, "Fools Run" is still an great book and entertaining read.

Fast-paced, fun, and full of suspense.

You have to suspend belief somewhat as it is easy for the reader to guess what is going to happen to the characters in the book early on - but in a way this adds to the suspense of the book as you keep wanting the characters to wake up and catch on to what seems obvious to the reader.

This book has a bit of a nostalgic touch to it, as many of the compter terms and equipment talked about in the book are out of date.

If you like this, you should see his book "Empress File"

3.0 von 5 Sternen When smart people turn dumb 18. Mai 2000

I like John Sandford's books. In fact, I like them a lot. I guess that is why I found this one disappointing. It's not a bad book. It just isn't up to his usual level. The problem here is one of believability. The two main characters, Kidd and Luellen, are just too bright to find themselves in the mess that they end up in. They should have seen it coming. I certainly did. Then there is the ending when they kill the two "Mob" hitmen. Oh yeah, that was real believable. Anyway, this is better than a lot of books you can read, but it's also at the bottom of Sandford's list.

Kidd and LuEllen are back in The Fool's Run. This time, they are asked to destroy a company, via computers. The novel is fast moving and well written.
