What if it all came crashing down?
It started with the "Biggest" stock market crash in history. Banks shut down under the weight of their bogus investments, and the financial sector failed. People looked to the government to make it all better. They couldn't! Hyper-inflation, mass unemployment and infrastructure started to breakdown. The food trucks didn't show up at the stores and the shelves went empty.

Things turned ugly fast when there was no power for long parts of the day... then forever. Cops, doctors, and trash collectors just stopped showing up for work when the paychecks were delayed too often, or just never came. Things started falling apart quicker after that. Whole regions declared a "State of Emergency" in an effort to maintain order and civility, but it wasn't always enough. Starvation, looting and murder became the norm. Then, our American civilization collapsed completely.

The Fall of America: Book 1 Premonition of Death is the beginning of a new series, about an average man who's life goes downhill fast, once society breaks down. Set in the rural south, a scorched-earth showdown with some local thugs leaves John and his wife homeless, and on the run. He hears rumors of a survivalist group made up of former military personnel, and finding them may be his only hope. Just basic survival becomes vicious, resistance at any cost, as the devastated country comes under new siege—invading Russian troops.

This book was very thrilling and reminds me alot of the ASHES series by William W.Johnstone. An interesting plot, good characters and a lot of action. If anyone needs good entertainment - well, here is the chance to get it!

OK, I am about 1/3 through the book, and I was so disgusted I had to take a break to write this review. I'll update when I finish. DO NOT WRITE A BOOK RELYING ON INFANTRY VETERANS AS THE MAIN CHARACTERS IF YOU ARE NOT ONE YOURSELF! Let's look...Air Force; fine, but not para-rescue (closest job to Infantry in that Service). "clips" instead of magazines. Infantry soldiers as characters, but stating they were at Fort "lost in the woods" for boot camp. Stating that the main character was deployed in Iraq and the Stan, but he only has a shotgun and pistol in the rural South. ...Sorry, most grunts (especially preppers) have a pretty large collection of AR's or AK's (depending on their tastes). Oh, the comment about the main character getting out before they included MRE heaters (odd, since they've been in MRE's since the 90's). Seriously, this may seem small. But, if he is this inaccurate, then what should I expect from the rest of the book? Regardless of whether I finish this book, I will not continue the series. To Mr. Benton, either do more research on your subject or just do not write about what you do not know. You could have at least let a couple grunts read it first to give you some feedback before putting this up for sale on Amazon.

2.0 von 5 Sternen Twisted Survival 2. Dezember 2013

Some good logical ways to handle some situations, but most is for those who consider their own survival as important. The so called "heroes" in this book are at times sadistic for no good purpose other than anger.
An American officer decides to cut parts off of two Russian officers. He gains no info., just revenge.
Another American officer pours gasoline on a young prisoner, and our "heroes" look the other way after a mild protest. Adolf H. would have had a field day leading this group.
Kill a person who is in your way, leave a wounded buddy, OK, but hurt my dogs, and I will shed a tear and turn into the incredible hulk.
If America turns into a place where we do not help each other in a crisis situation as much as possible, then we have lost everything worth fighting for anyway. In a scenario like the one portrayed, it is the ultimate hypocrisy to pray to Jesus for your own benefit. He would have condemned senseless torture, and these guys participated or permitted it to occur.

I have read a ton of books but sometimes you have to say enough is enough and move on.

This book did it I got roughly 3/4 through but was like nails on a chalk board.

The lead character has such a low opinion of woman throughout the book if becomes intolerable to read. By mid book he refers to them as the "women" when they have any mention at all.

The plot is muddy at best with you wondering in the end who are the bad guys as the lead character seems just as bad as the vague villains. The typical roaming raping gangs are replaced by the Chinese then the Russians? Then the good ole boys who help the Russians and Chinese.

The author got very lost in trying to make any sort of plot that if became to muddy to understand the end point.
Maybe there is none to be had I won't know because I chose to no longer waste my time to read.

I did like the "toe poppers" LOL that was good but a rare bright spot in an otherwise wasted few bucks and time.

Sorry man you put more effort into you dog then you did your wife.............

1.0 von 5 Sternen Yet Another Gramatically Challenged Self-Publishing Author 18. März 2015
Von Stefan Hundhammer - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
Seriously, I'm really done with those self-publishing authors who think they have to follow their inner calling to write books, yet never got beyond primary school level with their grammar and their spelling. This is yet another one of those.

If you know that your language skills have their limitations, please at least do yourself and your audience a favor and FIND SOMEBODY who can spell and who can fix the grammar glitches. You spend months of your lifetime writing a book, yet you can't be bothered to give it to people who read it before it gets published and listen to their advice? None of them seems to be capable of finding any of those 3-4 grammar or spelling errors on each page? Ah, come on.

If you don't pay this much respect to your readers, do not expect very much respect from them in return.

In W.R. Benton's THE FALL OF AMERICA: Premonition of Death, I have to say it was refreshing to read a post-apocalyptic novel where not everyone had an AR-15 or AK-47 readily available. Not because I have anything against so-called "assault weapons" - in fact, I'm a part-time Tactical Firearms Trainer and NRA Service Rifle competitor. So, I have several military style weapons myself. I just find it awfully convenient that so many protagonists in the genre - as well as their allies & adversaries - seem to to have always be armed with ARs and seemingly endless supplies of ammo. And that is not the case in THE FALL OF AMERICA which, I believe, both sets it apart from so much of the genre - and makes it far more realistic.
As for the novel itself, I found the characters believable, the scenario plausible, and the writing on a par with the best I've read to date. There were a number of typos, which seem to plague the genre, but so many as to distract from the flow of the story.
In this novel John, a former soldier, struggles to maintain an ordered existence and to keep that which he's managed to squirrel away after our nation has come apart at the seems. Government and rule of law cease to exist, and it's essentially every man for himself. So w/ the help of his wife and an old Army buddy (& his wife) the die is cast. Things quickly go south for our protagonist, though he soldiers on in the face of adversity. And frankly, to say much more would give too much away.
Suffice it to say that I found the writing held my interest consistently. The plot twists and changes added to the overall quality of the novel as a whole - and I now look forward to getting started on Book 2 in the series.
