A very interesting presentation of a model of human and collective behaviour, Toru Sato hits on many co-related points between psychology, and perhaps unintentionally, quantum science.
We are energy based; its quite simple. Beyond molecules, or the Primacy of Matter, we are formed from energy. Our number one need as humans, is security. So if we are insecure (either financially, emotionally, or physically), we lose energy, and our happiness drops. We then have to steal energy from others to meet our desires. Sato's ocean analogy model describing energy exchanges is great. Why we do this, and how we do this individually and collectively is the overall message from this book.
There is a lot to absorb and it is written in a style lighter than some other esoteric/psychology books I've come across.
There is relevance between Sato's book and real world experience, so its not one of those 'theory' only resources. I especially like the way we associate with groups who share the same insecurities. I look at it in terms of projecting the unwanted parts of ourselves onto others. If we are prone to using the Reptilian part of our brain when under stress which insecurity causes, we will resort to predator behaviour to "steal" energy from other individuals, or groups to increase our perception of security. In the West because we are more digital in nature, we orient our economic and financial structures to support predator behaviour collectively, or Social Darwinism - separation and competition. Instead of alleviating conflict, this just generates more - and more insecurity, so more of our energy goes into protection instead of the growth required to solve the conflict. Reminds me of the Monsters Inc. movie where the Monsters used the energy from 'screams' by intentionally creating fear, used to power their plants and machines.
A great read, bordering on integrating the Primacy of Consciousness into the way we behave.
I also recommend Dr. Bruce Lipton's "The Biology of Belief".
