Kurzbeschreibung

1. November 2002 Dragons of a New Age
In an age of tyranny, one evil rises above all others.

The Summer of Chaos swept its devastation across the world of Krynn. In its wake, foul dragon overlords of immeasurable power conquered Ansalon and remade the lands in their own image. But Malystryx, the greatest and most evil of all the dragons, is no longer content with ruling her domain. She wants to ascend to godhood, and only one band of stalwart heroes stands in her way.

2.0 von 5 Sternen Disappointing 30. April 2000

It was an okay book, but altogether I expect more from Dragonlance and I think that the whole trilogy was a flop, plus I could barely get through some of the more boring parts of the book. The characters were uninteresting and even some of my old favorites from previous books were very boring in these books and I could barely tell that they were meant to be the same people. There wasn't enough description at some of the crucial or potentially interesting parts of the book and to much description in the boring parts of the book. The plot had potential but was poorly handled and very confusing at times even to the most avid Dragonlance reader. I was disappointed in the whole trilogy.

Eve of the Maelstrom was a massive letdown. For the hideous TSR blunder regarding Goldmoon alone it deserves *no* stars. For an author supposed to usher in a 'golden age of dragonlance,' Rabe did a pretty good job of matching the Mills & Boon excesses of the books that ruined DL's reputation in the first place.

The characters: mostly a collection of stereotypes with a rare few possibly decent characters who were mostly undeveloped. Two of the stars are almost direct copies of the Power Rangers, with Rig doing a poor impression of the already juvenile Han Solo 'not really a rebel, just a cool image'.

The plot: mostly suppressed from my memory. I'm thinking of sending WotC my shrink's bill. What sticks out in my mind is that Rabe ignored the format of a trilogy and left major cliffhangers (as opposed to nagging unfinished business such as at the end of Chronicles). This wasn't artistic, it was mostly just 'stay tuned for everything our advertising said was going to happen in this book.'

The action: this deserves it's own category. As a roleplayer I'm used to abstract systems of champions being able to take exponentially more damage than normal people because they're more 'experienced.' This is something I can reconcile in games, but not in a book. Why should a former professional soldier be able to wipe out thirty men who are still on the same training regime while naked and wielding a clumsy poleaxe? Why are the Knights of Takhisis so stupid?

The themes: no Hickmanism here! Rather than classic Dragonlance I'm reminded more of Independence Day.

I truely wish i could rate this thing any lower, i'm rating the series in total. it deserves just as much attention. My god please help me, this is awful. Blister is about the dumbest Kender to live, if you want to call her a kender, she sounded off to be more like J.R.R Tolkien's Hobbit, only with stupid ideals. Its so amazing how none of the characters has any real depth, that is what happends when you attempt to write about characters which arent' taken from real role playing, they have no personality and are all seemingly the same, and the whole deal of Goldmoon Dying yet not, is really annoying. I am truely crushed that TSR allowed this thing to by pass into publication. Is there anything good about this book. well i'll hand it to Rabe, she knows how to write when coming to the Dragons, and that is about all i could stand in this book. If you start reading the series, you will find that it has no end, and that the final chapter really doesn't lead to anything, and you are once more where you started. In short words, this book isn't worth your money, or time. a true shame to the dragonlance saga.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A dawning of age both in Krynn and in Dragnlance books.
Bravo Jean! This new addition to dragonlance is a real gem. Sure the Kender was weak, but, the rest was a beutifuly crafted begining in the new age of the dragon overlords.
