In November 1974, 23-year-old Ronnie DeFeo was convicted of murdering his entire family. Decades later, he was haunted by a terrifying demon from his past. But no one wanted to listen.

Except one woman.

For years, as the legend of the Amityville Horror murders were retold in print and film, DeFeo withdrew, growing more bitter as his twisted celebrity status increased.

Then he received a note from Brooklyn psychic Jackie Barrett, saying she had been made aware of his presence by an unknown force. She didn't know if he was guilty, innocent, or insane--but she sensed that he was besieged by a fearsome evil.

As Jackie began to talk to Ronnie DeFeo and discover the truth, she realized something startling: She hadn't been guided toward him merely to help him find salvation. There was someone else whose soul needed saving. Someone much closer.

Here, in her own words, Jackie Barrett reveals the details of her astonishing relationship with Ronnie DeFeo, and, for the first time, his revelation of what really happened in that terrible night.

2.0 von 5 Sternen When Good Ideas Go Bad 19. September 2012

The concept of the book was unique..there really hasn't been much published about Ronnie DeFeo outside of the original Amityville Horror book. The author had good access to Defeo through daily phone calls then finally meeting him that should have produced more than this, basically the book is full of DeFeos rants and lies and flashbacks to the authors childhood then the author somehow saves DeFeo from a spirit. To Barnett's credit she does not appear to believe much of what is told by DeFeo but she does allow him to continue on. Much of the book is wasted by the author recalling her childhood and telling stories about her husband Will. I really did not enjoy reading this book and would not recommend it.

1.0 von 5 Sternen A horrible and terrible waste of time and money 7. April 2013
Von Amazon Customer - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
That's the first (and last) time I trust Fangoria for a book review. I love the magazine, but what the HELL were they thinking? The biggest waste of 10 bucks ever. Amateurish, boring writing from a liar who takes money to fulfill the wish fantasies of desperate people. This book offers nothing in the way of new or even compelling rehashing of old information on the DeFeo murders. And the chapters upon long-winded chapters about this woman and her dopey life as a mystic psychic voodoo witch woman - honestly it's just unbearable. Walk away now, save your money and your time. And when you read this - shame on you Jackie Barrett, shame on you and you wasteful, deceitful life. Also you have no talent as a writer. None.

2.0 von 5 Sternen Occult Fiction 22. November 2012
Von Julia14 - Veröffentlicht auf
I recently finished this book and I am very disappointed with Jackie Barret's tall tale.
I purchased the book under the impression that, after interviewing the murderer for nearly a year, this "psychic"-detective" would be able to shed some light onto the tragic murders of the DeFeo family. Instead, I found this story to be a jumble between the author's biography, her elaborate claims as "psychic medium" and the twisted rants of a true psychopath. I am not a believer in the occult, but do believe some people have psychic gifts. Ms Barret did not convince me that she possesses those gifts, but it is clear she engages in occult practices.
The tragic story of the DeFeo family has been written about and documented in film, prolifically. There is no evidence to date, that anyone other than Ronnie Defeo Jr committed the murders. Ms Barret attempts to directs the reader into believing that Ronnie Jr was "possessed" by a demon that resided in his house and followed him to prison where the demon continued to haunt him. Her interviews with him were all by phone and she had only one meeting with him in prison to "exorcise" him, with a film crew in tow. In her interviews with Ronnie DeFeo, she asks many questions and receives contrived and unverified answers. The story flips back and forth with little cohesiveness between the lives of the central characters-the author, her mother(a deceased occultist) and Ronnie DeFeo. Most importantly, none of Ms.Barret's claims can be verified and with so many loopholes left open, I couldn't help but doubt her story. A few facts are emphatically clear - Ronnie DeFeo was an admitted heroin addict, having a hit the night of the murders. He also was a severely disturbed individual going back to his childhood.
Unfortunately, Ms Barret gave a drug addicted sociopath a forum to continue his rants that he did not murder all the members of his family,"just" his abusive father and one sister.....and the devil made him do it!
If you are looking for a true life crime drama, look elsewhere. However, as a work of occult fiction, this story is not a bad read.

Honestly I don't even begin to understand the positive reviews...

It was a rambling, disjointed ruminations of what could only be described as psychosis from a serial killer. The only thing worse was the interjections of the personal life of the author/medium. I literally started skipping to the 'Ronnie' bits just to get through it.

In the original movie language: For God's sake, skip it! Or at least buy it used to avoid additional runs of this dreck!

2.0 von 5 Sternen More Smoke From Butch Defeo 22. Oktober 2012
Von James J. Varela - Veröffentlicht auf
This is yet another version of events that Butch has come up with. I saw Jackie and Ronnie on the A&E special and it made the Amityville Horror movie seem believeable. The expression on Jackie's face when Ronnie, on the phone, does his is best to try and imitate Linda Blair in the exorcist is utterly histerical. I have no clue why Defeo continues these stunts. This book is another one trying to portary Ronnie has a victim of his father's abuse and blame the 1974 murders on his sister Dawn.
