Mr. King is a true born again atheist. His emotional attempt to spread the word to the "brainwashed" believer is heartwarming and boundless. The intellectual awakening he experienced upon realizing the falsity of the Christian creed seems to have provided the impetus for writing this book.
Mr. King's background is biblical scholarship, and it shows. He does his best to point out the more obvious contradictions in biblical text. But there is nothing really new here, most, if not all, of these "problems" have been well documented by a myriad of authors.
But my impression is that Mr. King's real goal is to just get the theist to "think", so she will see the error of her ways. What is so clear to him will surely become clear to others... if they just think! Of course, that's the problem, isn't it? They don't think. This type of argument never gets anywhere. No one is ever convinced and no minds are ever changed. And, considering the title of this book, one wonders if many Christians will even read his message; for the most part Mr. King will be preaching to the choir.
Hopefully, some day, all religion will need to stand the test of truth or falsity. The supernatural either exists or it doesn't (it doesn't); the bible is either the revealed word of a sky god or it isn't (it isn't). So far Christianity has successfully withstood its failure to back up its most basic tenets, due, no doubt, to the boundless credulity its followers.
Unfortunately, the loose regard Mr. King displays toward the rules of style and usage preclude me from recommending this book ... it's not an enjoyable read.
