I would recommend everything from Mark Lewisohn! 6. Februar 2012
Von John E. Langley - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Taschenbuch
What you will learn reading this book is how hard the Beatles worked to "make it". Mark Lewisohn provides the cold research that shows just how hard the Beatles worked, usually 6 nights out of 7 with a day or two of multiple shows and about half the shows for short money. Fame didn't beat a path to the door of the Beatles, after Hamburg, where they worked very hard, they were in every venue they could possible work, and this book details that path. Reading the recording of appearances it made you feel good that something so highly achieved did not come cheaply. They killed themselves to achieve their fame. Mark Lewiston, my god, as a super Beatles fan I'm glad to know there is a person obsessessed with bringing all the historical documents together to form the story that we know happened (and from which our theorys can start). Mark Lewisohn doesn't publish heresay, but only facts he can find such as old advertising posters, apearance contracts or redundant stories. It's a great read, though it's like reading a travel itineary, it's very enlightening to show the Beatles path to fame and the hard work it took to get there.

BTW, Lewisohn wrote the Beatles Recording Cronicles which details the Beatles recording history, and I am anticipating his two volume biography of the Beatles coming out any time between 2013 and 2015. And I am not a paid spokesperson for Mr. Lewisohn.

Extremely comprehensive but it reads like a log book. There are icons which let you know what the event is about like recording, live, television, etc. Not a complete overview of how they recorded, it might say that they recorded Johns vocals through a Leslie speaker but it doesn't give detailed accounts of instruments used, how this amp was mic'd, who played what on every song or things like that. So if your looking for a detailed account of everything the Beatles did from the beginning to the end this is your book, don't expect to read this and then record in the fashion of Abbey Road studios if that is your idea. I really enjoyed it.

If you love the Beatles.... 31. August 2011

This book is indispensible! Get it! It accounts for virtually every significant day in the Beatles' career. The studio notes aren't as exhaustive as Lewisohn's "Abbey Road Chronicles" but they put just the right amount of information across for every fan. I can't recommend this book more!
For the dedicated Beatles fan 21. Februar 2014

Ever wonder what the Beatles were doing on a particular date... this book will tell you from 1957 to that faithful day on April 10th 1970 tyat Paul announced THE BEATLES were no more.

Like today's date Feb 20th 1967.... The Beatles ...they started work on Being For the Benefit of Mr. Kite! working from 7 PM to 2:15am
John told George Martin he wanted the song bathed in a circus atmosphere. You have to admit George really did a great job I once can almost smell the saw dust at the circus. Wonderful tidbits throughout this book... for the truly dedicated Beatles fans.
Can you say "research?" 27. April 2014

Mr. Lewisohn could well be the number one authority on Beatle history. Granted, this book is mostly facts but, he presents them in a manner that makes the reader (who is probably a Beatle fan) stay interested as each year progresses.
