This book is a compilation of profiles of world religions written by scholars affiliated with the International Students, Inc., an evangelical Christian organization. It is a manual designed to arm proselytizing Christians in their attempt to confront Buddhists, Moslems, Hindus, Taoists, Jews, Marxists, and other faith believers with the inconsistencies of their faiths and to ring them into Christianity. The chapter on Judaism ends with a message to weary Christians: "Be encouraged that many Jewish believers in Jesus have come to faith through the loving witness of Gentle Christians." The message for those attempting to convert a Marxist has a simpler ending: "Love them. Pray for them. Encourage them to study God's word with you." This strong theological agenda eliminates this book as an objective source for facts concerning world religions. This is not a book for those looking for an unbiased introduction of the religious traditions of the mankind. It gives a series of sketchy portraits of non-Christian religions with guidelines for proselytizing members of other faiths.

Shows the differences among the religions and why Christianity remains rational and true. It doesn't belittle other religions but shows clearly and rationally how their objections to Christianity are false. Of course, if you are some sort of radical or extremist, reason won;t help.

I only read the section of this book dealing with Islam, and being Muslim I was deeply offended by this. I myself converted to Islam from Christianity and have extensively studied comparative religions. Coming from this background I could say that Mr. Dean C. Halverson's book in relation to Islam is not only inaccurate but is nothing more than a crude way of attempting to convert poor misguided Muslims.

Good basic comparisons but too much Christian pontification.
