Being a fan and faithful follower of the Lyncoln Rhyme novels, I couldn't wait to start on "The Cold Moon". Although the book started promisingly, it then became more and more 'unbelievable' in its twists and turns. I usually enjoy and appreciate Jeffery Deaver's style of sudden twists in the plot, keeping you thinking that you are close to working things out and then suddenly making you realize that you followed down the wrong road of conclusions entirely. This time, however, there was simply too much of this. After a while, I just kept thinking "yeah, yeah, OK, another red herring...and another one.... and another one." And though I basically like the new character of Kathryn Dance - boy, who'd need a lie detector when she is around...?! I appreciate all the kinesics theories, but it simply got too much in the end, too unrealistic.
Also, I know Mr. Deaver likes to educate his readers along with his story, but the tone eventually got too "schoolmaster-ish", especially on the subject of kinesics.
All in all, a nice read, and interesting installment in the Rhyme/Sachs saga (and Amelia Sachs' storyline is by far the best in the entire book!), but certainly not one of JD's best.
