Absolutely fantastic. Not only the story but when you hear him reading the book ( I also bought the CD) it is a pleasure to hear it. The story is so brilliant and so simple, it could really happen but how Bennet tells about it, you can really see his characters alive. I heard the CD three times and will hear it again and again and read the book.

Nothing left after Cosi Fan Tutte, but the chance to change their lives. While he fails to do so, she thrives on it, or rather on him.
The story is hilarious - Alan Bennett at his second best (after The Uncommon Reader, of course!). Witty in language and plot, critical as for bourgeois habits, behaviour and necessities. A little sarcastic in the end. I enjoyed this short work very much.
The Lady and the Van: did not appeal to me at all.

... but, well, not much more. At least for me.
I really liked the topic of "The Clothes they Stood Up In": losing everything material in this world and starting over again. Yet of course there are different reactions to an event like that which is beautifully described in this story. Interesting also the end of the story showing that something well meant is not always what is really good for you. And of course the solution of the mystery.
The second story "The Lady in the Van" was nice but I couldn't really relate to it and do not share the opinion that this is "one of the finest bursts of comic writing the twentieth century has produced" as it is said in this book's short description by Amazon.
I'm no literature expert, I just read for fun and can recommend this book as easy read which on the other hand definitely gives you something to think about if you want to.
