Alan Randall Liebowitz is a man stuck in a pattern: right before the holidays his current significant other goes walkabout, leaving him alone … again.

Jacques Lambert is an up and comer chef with a bright future. Until his partner with benefits runs off, leaving him bankrupt and relying on the kindness of his family.

The local college holds night cooking classes, for seniors mostly. Jack’s sister talks him into applying for a teaching spot. Alan’s neighbor talks him into expanding his horizons.

When a lonesome foodie meets the chef of his dreams, more than the scallops are flambéed.

5.0 von 5 Sternen I want more! 8. Dezember 2013
Von Janus Gangi -Stolen Moments - Veröffentlicht auf

Yes, yes I know this is a short story. But this story was too short. Why?? Because I have fallen head or heels in love with the characters and I want more, more, more!
Now that I have had my hissy fit, let me tell you this story is worth every cent. What is worse than facing the holidays alone, again? I so relate to this. So, call me sentimental or a fool when that all too important question was asked. Do you believe in love at first sight? Hell yes I do!
I found myself crying and cheering at the same time. This is a wonderful story, just right for the holiday season. If you like happy M/M Romance that will leave you all warm and fuzzy inside, then this is the story for you. And on a side note, the food was great too. lol
Nya, please, please please, bring back these characters.

Five stars because I can't give any more than that! Such a wonderful quick read, perfect for the holidays, perfect for that 'I-gotta--get-away-from-the-family-for-even-twenty-minutes' break, but when you come up for air - and you won't, promise, until your eyes stroke their way across "THE END" - you'll be left wanting more. What happens next? I have to know - this is a sweet, spicy, wonderful short with a pair of unforgettable men who NEED to march right on to my bookshelf and make themselves a home out of four or five or six or ten full length books, all about themselves.

This author is incredible - EVERYONE should have their Kindles groaning-full of her wonderful writing. Five stars and more, always!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Witty and sexy ... funny and poignant 8. Dezember 2013

Like producing a light-as-air meringue from runny egg whites, Nya Rawlyns creates a perfect little story from just a few well selected ingredients.

In a short story, it’s difficult to create characters a reader can almost reach out and touch. Rawlyns has that magic ability to whip up delectable men I want to nibble (and more), starting with their edgy point of view.

“A Christmas Toast” is a delightful and witty trek through the kitchen and bedroom of a foodie (Alan) who meets a chef (Jack). Perfect match, right? Well ... except that both men are torn with the angst of past relationship failures. Both men seem bent on avoiding a delicious meal even before the salad plates are put on the table.

As usual, Rawlyns sets up the characters in few well-selected words. This story is a primer on how to draw in a reader with the minimum amount of fuss and the maximum amount of irony. A half-Jew goes to a cooking class to learn how to cook a Christmas ham. Two men who are picking up the shards of old relationships sort through a waste basket full of broken dishes. You get the idea.

It’s a fast read, a funny and even poignant story of love failed and love renewed … a story that will make you laugh and cry, pick up your spirits, and excite your desire for a sexy male-on-male romance. Witty and sexy ... funny and poignant. FIVE STARS!

4.0 von 5 Sternen Feel good, great read! 26. Dezember 2013
Von Carole "The Romance Reviews" - Veröffentlicht auf

As usual I loved the writing of Nya Rawlyns. THE CHRISTMAS TOAST is a short seasonal story but with such a feel good factor that it makes my heart beat a little faster as I cheer these two men on towards finding their happy-ever-after.

Alan Randall Liebowitz is once again left alone by a former lover. He's fed up, struggling to make ends meet and resigned to the fact he'll probably always be alone. Jacques 'Jack' Lambert is a rising star in the chef community, looking forward to becoming famous one day, until his partner with benefits leaves him in the lurch and bankrupt.

But of course, in true romantic style, a cooking class brings together the ingredients for a sizzling hot romance and these two men find more than they bargained for on their dinner plates....

I'm not usually a fan of insta-love, where two guys' eyes meet across a room and that's it--they are hooked and sinkered forever and fall in love within twenty-four hours. I imagine love at first sight happens and I'd never deny this, even though I haven't been lucky enough to experience it. Having said that, this story really pulled me along in every way possible, from that first meeting through the issues both men face, their first taste of despair when things don't quite work out as planned and the eventual discovery that the two of them are definitely meant to be in the same sauce.

Alan was definitely ready to take things further.....

He'd been ready to drop and spread his bum, right on the kitchen floor. Let Chef Jacques have his way with him, skewered and done to Pittsburgh rare. Bloody and raw and filled with hot, sweet cum.

But alas, in creating the perfect recipe for sexual fulfillment and attraction, there are bound to be some mishaps and sometimes the Chef has other ideas as to what ingredients to use.

But despite the initial encounter being rendered down to nothing more than a gooey mess in the pan, things soon pick up on the boil and the two men find themselves sharing more than just a starter.

I thoroughly enjoyed Alan and Jack's story. I giggled, oohed and aahed, felt the shock of their distress and the warmth in the heart (and elsewhere) when they finally got it all together. Yet another great read from Nya Rawlyns.

This is the perfect short to enjoy while you're waiting for that xmas cake to bake. I rather like Jack. I wasn't that fond of Alan, but I definitely liked Jack.

Both these dudes have issues, love generally isn't love so when their significant other end arrives it's bitter, bitchy, and ugly. Both Jack and Alan have recently danced this tango with their now ex's, so it's nice when they have an 'the earth shook and heaven held her breath' moment. I do think some characters needed a moment more, just for resolution, like Ted, but overall this is such a sweet read you might not even notice.

And Jack's a chef! As a devout fan of cookbooks, the cooking channel, and experimental cookery in my own kitchen, I loved Jackie! (as his sister calls him) - I love the food talk, I love that this is centered around food. Oddly even though the ending is hugely romantic, it seemed to me like a family relieved to kick the downtrodden brother out and into someone else's arms. It might just be the cynic in me but I found a lot of bittersweetness as a number of scenes could be taken 2 ways.

A happy ending is the most important ingredient (every pun intended) in a novel, and you'll be really happy that by the end of this novella, love at first sight wins her war and destiny finally plays ball.
