Kurzbeschreibung

Lorenzo's world is falling apart. His fencing school is failing, the military wants him back in uniform, and the entire country is reeling from a devastating war. But he believes that an ancient and dangerous relic can restore his nation to prosperity and honor, if the military doesn't find it first.

But just as he prepares to set out, he receives some unexpected guests. Famed pilot Taziri Ohana arrives on his doorstep with three frightened passengers, two exhausted crewmen, and one harrowing story about her aeroplane being shot down by the Espani military... the same military that wants Lorenzo's holy relic.

With his fearless wife and her saber-toothed cat at his side, Lorenzo races into the north where he finds deadly foreign agents, blood-thirsty beasts, and freezing blizzards, as well as a strange masked woman who can guide him to his sacred treasure. But when the relic is stolen and the military unleashes a massive new warship, Lorenzo must prevent a war that could destroy countless nations, even if it costs him both the relic and his life.

A good second book. 12. Februar 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This novel is the second one in the "Halcyon" series, written by this author, and it turned out to be an entertaining and interesting book, overall. You find yourself again meeting some of the characters from the first book, but with a different focus and another scenario, plus some new elements that will play their part in the plot. I liked it and it made me like Lorenzo and Qhora even more, but it seems I came to read this with too high expectations and got a little disappointed, specially when it comes to Syfax. ^_^U

Overall, though, it's a great, well-written novel, with the right dose of action, adventure, romance and religion or philosophy, so it's worth reading it. If you're a Syfax fan, like me, you may get your heart a bit broken, but, other than that, it's definitely a good read. :)

A fast paced and fun read 7. Juni 2011
Von Arador - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
This is the second book in the Halcyon series. I have read the first book as well. This book continues with the same characters as in the first one, but the previously seperate plot lines get merged as the main characters meet and interact with each other in this book. The airship Halcyon is not central to this book, but it was still important.

The central characters, Tahiri, Lorenzo, Kenan, and Qhora all undergo some development in this book. They have depth and feelings and help draw the reader into the plot. I enjoyed the change of geography, the alternate reality Spain is interesting: Espani, a cold snowy land, full of ghosts, and completely lacking in technology. Lorenzo's struggle with being an expert sword user, and instructor, with being a deeply religious man are highlighted in this book. Lewis has created a good cast of characters in an alternate steampunk Mediterranean world. I've enjoyed this series and look forward to reading more by Lewis.

Lively and Entertaining 31. Mai 2011
Von J. C. Hardy - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
A highly entertaining steam punkish fantasy set in an alternate universe, The Broken Sword, moves quickly and is filled with interesting and engaging characters. Opening the book I soon found myself shivering through an Ice Age winter in Espana, with Don Lorenzo Quesada de Gadir, fencing master who specializes in the Sword of Life technique. Revolutionary and a pacifist, Don Lorenzo, his Incan wife Qhora, and his fencing pupils find themselves in the midst of a dilemma that could mean the end of peace and perhaps even the end of the world! Along with with a rag tag band of plane crash survivors including a whiny Dante Alighieri and a stalwart Shahera Zade, Don Lorenzo and his group face dangers and overcome obstacles in the best questing tradition. While that may sound simply put, any loyal reader of fantasy knows its not the destination, its the journey. In this case the journey is worthwhile when tagging along with this group of characters. I would recommend this if you like fantasy, it was a fast, fun reading experience.

Great read. Lots of characters to both love and hate. 28. Mai 2011

I read Burning Sky when it came out and absolutely live it. Mr. Lewis has succeeded again in bringing back many of the characters from the first and continuing their saga. He has obviously put quite a bit of thought into how these characters will grow and evolve butis unafraid to lose a few on the way. I can't wait to see what he does with this vagabond group. Only problem with reading the books so far apart is trying to keep all the historical plotlines straight. I would not be surprised to see a minor character in either book show up in the third and I will have to revisit to recall their history.
