    From Publishers Weekly

Ludlum has never come up with a more head-spinning, spine-jolting, intricately mystifying, Armageddonish, in short Ludlumesque, thriller than this. A Peking leader of seemingly irreproachable reputation, secretly a Kuomintang fanatic, has masterminded a plot to take over Hong Kong via political assassination, the result of which would be civil war in China and possibly global disaster. His principal agent is an assassin-for-hire masquerading as the legendary "Jason Bourne," a one-time secret U.S. agent now, under his real name David Webb, struggling with the aid of a psychiatrist and his loving wife Marie to recover from amnesia. Only one man can destroy the conspiracy: Webb, who must be persuaded to re-assume his Bourne identity, track down the impostor and through him lay a trap for the vile Shengthe "persuasion" to be by way of his abducted wife. The action jolts from the back alleys of Hong Kong and Kowloon to a secret government complex in the Colorado mountains to the seats of power in Peking and even the interior of Mao's tomb. Every chapter ends with a cliff-hanger; the story brims with assassination, torture, hand-to-hand combat, sudden surprise and intrigue within intrigue. It's a sure-fire bestseller. 650,000 first printing; $150,000 ad/promo; BOMC selection; Franklin Library limited edition.

    From Library Journal

In this sequel to The Bourne Identity , David Webb, still suffering flashbacks to his Jason Bourne persona, is forced to undertake a final, possibly fatal mission after his wife is kidnapped. He must find and capture an assassin who is posing as Bourne in Hong Kong. By so doing he'll foil a plot that could plunge the Far East and then the world into war. Ludlum's latest has a best seller quality that many imitate but few master. You can quibble about this being too long, too talky, too preposterously implausible, but you can't quit reading. As often happens with sequels, this is not quite up to the standards of the original, but legions of Ludlum fans will send it soaring up the best seller list. BOMC main selection. Charles Michaud, Turner Free Lib., Randolph, Mass.

April 2000
This is the second book in the Bourne series. The first was pretty exciting. This second one starts out pretty good, with several different factions fighting for unknown reasons. Bourne (and his woman) are caught in the middle and he and the reader don't know who is on whose side. But the whole thing ends up in a contrived mess. Although Bourne doesn't know the good guys from the bad guys, he miracuously only kills the bad guys while just knocking out the good guys. It is also pretty silly that Bourne, a white guy, can move so freely around the Asian underworld. The agony his life goes through gets pretty tiring after awhile.
Since the story takes place in Asia, there is the obligatory Asian friend who gets killed. An Asian woman or child in an action story has a lower life expectancy than a black guess star in an old Star Trek episode. This was always been a cheesy, easy way out. Any good hero couldn't just leave his Asian friend in Asia, but trying to get the Asian friend out of Asia would complicate the story too much. So, just kill her off when she is no longer needed.
While it would be very helpful to read the first book (Bourne Identity) to understand this second book, this second book adds nothing to the series and really isn't necessary to understand the third book. The first and third books deal with finding the assassin, Carlos. This second book has very little to do with that.

5.0 von 5 Sternen One of the best books I've read, if not the best 21. April 1998
    Von Ein Kunde
Jason Bourne is one of the people you'd like to see come to life. Maybe one day, they'll make a movie on him.. James Bond.... if you put him next to Bourne.. Ludlum has given Bourne a touch of reality, which I have seen no other author do.. The mystery, the intrigue, the story.. the book is sooo good, you wouldn't want to put it down.. Jason Bourne returning to his past.. When you read it, you can actually picture it happen.. I would read a few chapters before sleeping, and I would dream about the things he did.. The only reason this book gets a 9 is that I haven't read the Bourne Identity & the Bourne Ultimatum.. I passed a great opportunity to read the Bourne Identity which was with me for a whole 8 months.. until I returned it to a friend.. I never got beyond Page 28 of that book.. Robert Ludlum is THE BEST AUTHOR you'll ever FIND.. and The Bourne trilogy is his best accomplishment.. I don't know if he's alive, and if he is, I'd love to see more of Jason Bourne.. even if Bourne is a grandfather in the next book...

5.0 von 5 Sternen Different, but good 11. Juli 2000
Bourne is back! But is it the real Bourne? This one is filled with packed action. The twists aren't as many, but the tension and action zip along at a hasty pace. A great sequel to the awesome Bourne Identity. Read it.

Just like Ludlum once said in one of his novels, there was no a yellow skinned Chinese who could become a successful assassin in the western world, how come a white guy, not matter how good he was, i.e., no matter how good his make-up skills were, how he could survive in a 1-billion-yellow-skinned evironment, and even become a very active assassin? If this premise failed to establish well, then, this whole book was a totally absurd hypothesis, and of course, not worthy at all

Once you read one of his book you'll want to read another, and another, and another. Mr. Ludlum is my favorite writer. And you will too, once you get to read his books, become one of Ludlum's avid and excited reader. Isn't that why they are all bestsellers! You'll surely have fun reading and would flip through the pages with eagerness. I recommend you try and I promise, you'll enjoy one after the other.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Not nearly as good as the first! 20. Januar 2000
What ever happens to Carlos? I could not enjoy the book after realizing the tale of Carlos would be left untold. The book has an almost lame, drawn out plot, and lacks the bite and surprises that made The Bourne Identity one of the best books I have ever read. I think Ludlum should have left good enough alone and not writen a sequel. It doesn't even seem like Jason Bourne is in this book because all the mysteries that made the first book great are solved and that aspect of a Jason Bourne story can never be replaced.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Another Ludlum Blockbuster 18. Juni 2000
The Bourne Supremacy is the second in the Bourne Trilogy. Robert Ludlum has captured the scenery of China to a masterpiece of danger, excitement, and thrills during every page of this book.
Jason Bourne, a paid assassin is back in China. Or is he? A man who still is not quite sure who he is goes to China and murders begin to happen. Could Jason be the killer? Or is there another Jason Bourne? Or maybe even a different murderer who wants everybody to think Jason is the killer?
This is definitely an excellent sequel, and I would recommend this book to anyone who has read the first one.
