A vampire Bible for the World of Darkness
I wrote all of the verse and the "academic commentary" in Book of Nod - not the stuff in the back. I'm not sure if WW has put out a new version of it - I've never heard of the editor that's listed. My name is spelled wrong here: it's actually Sam Chupp. Let's see - some memories about writing The Book of Nod: I remember checking out a Hebrew Dictionary from the public library and reading what *it* had to say about the Caine/Abel situation, and structuring my re-write of the "Chronicle of Caine" that way. You can tell I was very influenced by the Hebrew midrash about Lilith, as well. I like Lilith as a figure, and t hought that the very male-oriented Vampire 'first myth' needed a female power figure. Who else but Lilith could give Caine (and thus all of the Kindred) his magical power? A lot of people have said they can't read the Malkavian page - the layout was done by Michele Prahler, who is an incredible graphic artist - she didn't really care one way or another whether you could read the text. The text is very silly, as you can imagine - Malkavians themselves being quite insane, Malkav was pretty much off his rocker already when he wrote it. Anyway, I heartily recommend the Book of Nod - it is one of my works that I really enjoy looking at again and again - I can't take credit for the excellent development that Andrew Greenberg did nor for the wonderful art and layout, but I do take credit for the words of the verse. Anyway - even if you are just into Goth stuff, you'll probably get a kick out of it. I've even heard somebody started a "Church of Nod", a thought which is enough to occasionally contribute to sleepless nights

Kurz und knackig: Stehen Sie auf die alte "World of Darkness", ist das Book of Nod ein hübsches Nachschlagewerk, wenn es um die Entstehung, Geschichte und Evolution der Kainiten geht. Jedoch sind mindestens erweiterte Englisch-Kenntnisse notwendig, um alle Passagen auch deutlich verstehen zu können und sie in einen zeitlichen wie strukturellen Kontext bringen zu können. Schön wäre jedoch gewesen, wenn die einzelnen Buchseiten farbig gestaltet wären; das hätte das Gesamtbild nochmals gesteigert. Trotzdem bleibt das Book of Nod ein Muss für jeden WoD-Rollenspiel-Fan, der sich nicht nur mit der Praxis in Form des Rollenspiels auseinander setzen will.

This is a wonderful book. I am an avid Vampire The Masquerade Table top player. This book is valuable to any RPer. It gives so much insight into the Caine Myth and History. It is so helpful

This is the best and most accurate up-to-date book about vampire lore. If you've every thought about reading a book about the demons that walk the night this has to be your first pick. It lists all the clans in full detail with the last words of the 2nd generation clan elders to their childer and a very in depth story about the first vampire Caine. Although some of the writing may be hard to read (like the Malkavian clan text) this is still a great book. But the only way to complete it is to read The Erciyes Fragments which will complete the Book of Nod. ENJOY!

Definitely worth the price
