Synopsis
This is a complete behind the scenes look at the film-making process and the technological innovation in Sony Pictures Image Works new film, "Monster House", in cinemas this autumn. It features amazing "flip book" storyboards, director's sketches, concept art and photographs of the actors' performances caught in "motion capture" animation. The book will include interviews with the stars and artists involved in developing the story, the characters and the technology. It is presented in beautiful four colour, 3D art, "house and character" pop outs, gatefolds, die-cut overlays of the five stages of computer generated "motion capture" technology, including a DVD with press kit material, interviews with Spielberg, Zemeckis, Gil Kenan, Steve Buscemi and Maggie Gyllenhaal.

This is the art book that started all the scrapbook-styled art books. It's easily the best and it still is. Inside the book's cardboard cover is a top quality glossy dust jacket.
This book has 160 pages and is literally filled to the brim with tons of stuff. There are "collectible" cards, storyboards, small booklets, post-it notes and amazing beat boards. The breathtaking beat boards sometimes take up to 2 pages. The photos I've taken below just didn't do enough justice, compared to holding the book and flipping through those pages yourself.
The book is divided into 2 main parts. The first part talks on the making of Monster House. It's where they come up with the conceptualizing for the movie. Topics such has character designs, lighting, music, the artists and actors to employ.
The second part is the art and story of Monster House. There are hundreds of storyboard panels fully painted. The main artists for the beat boards are Khang Le and Chris Appelhans. Included also are some 3D models and miniatures photos, showing how certain scenes are framed.
Every page entices me to flip to the next, yet the beautiful artwork just make it so difficult to. It's a thoroughly enjoyable and fun book.

Packed with TONS of stuff!

I have quite an extensive collection of "Art of" and "Making of" movie books but I have to say, this one is the most fun out of them all! Yes, it has all the things that went into the making of the movie, such as preproduction artwork, models, all the things you'd expect to find in a "Art of" book but it's also packed with an ample supply of extras, such as real post-it notes, trading cards, various booklets... it took me a while just to go through all the little extras. A nice surprise!
If you enjoyed the movie and like these type books, then you'll LOVE this one!

An amazing book!

This is how "art of" books really should be made. Lots of inserts, post-it notes and fun details. It looks almost like a scrapbook and is filled to the rim with drawings, renders, concept art and fun stuff. Very inspirational. It is just as great as the "Open Season" book which is also a must-have for all fans of animation.
