Kurzbeschreibung

1. Juli 2012
Optical illusions intrigue the mind and delight the eye. Viewers try to perceive the visual shifts in a two-dimensional picture, but can't understand how a single still image can be so animated and rich. While even the simplest illusions please, this stunning volume goes far beyond the usual collection. Compiled by visual graphics expert Brad Honeycutt and puzzle master Terry Stickels--and featuring a foreword by renowned puzzle creator, computer game designer, and artist Scott Kim--this collection showcases over two hundred of the finest images from around the world. From Rafal Olbinski, Rob Gonsalves, and Octavio Ocampo to David Macdonald, Gene Levine, and M. C. Escher, THE ART OF THE ILLUSION covers the visual spectrum, from the most classic optical illusions to complex graphic and painterly designs that transform the impossible into believable. There are famous paintings, dazzling photographs, and amazing computer-enhanced eye treats that will make you look and look again. There's "Zipper Beach" with gulls zipping over the sands, "Table Top Towers" where a tower of blocks seems to meld into a city skyline, a librarian whose body is literally composed of books, and so many more astounding pieces. This is a must-have for those who already love optical illusions and those just discovering the wonders of the art.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Book of illusive art 14. September 2012
Von Parka TOP 500 REZENSENT
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
Länge: 1:10 Minuten
I always find books on optical illusions fun to read. There's that certain delight you get when being tricked by an image, and also the sense of wonder when looking something improbable while trying to figure out what's wrong.

The Art of the Illusion, a 224-page hardcover authored by Brad Honeycutt and Terry Stickels, looks at the several forms of optical illusions such as drawings, photos, geometric shapes, 3D-like street paintings and others. Other than some of the more famous illusions, there are many new ones that I've not seen before.

Websites for the artists featured are also listed so you can explore more online.

It's a nice book to get if you like illusive art.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Damn You, Terry Stickels, I Need New Glasses! 6. September 2012
Von Sam Bellotto Jr. - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
With his latest endeavor, Terry Stickels, in collaboration with Brad Honeycutt, has accomplished something that I dare say no two authors have ever done in the history of publishing. They've demonstrably increased the average income of the American Optometric Association membership. Presenting a rather formidable title, "The Art of the Illusion: Deceptions to Challenge the Eye and the Mind" is much more than a book of perceptual trickery. It is the authoritative volume on the entire genre of the optical illusion. This is a coffee table book. This is a reference work. This is, ultimately, a puzzle book that every puzzle enthusiast has gotta have.

This stunning volume showcases over 200 of the finest images from around the world. We're not talking about tired, well-worn images that show up everywhere: which of the two arrows is longest; is this a vase or a face. These are complex works of art by illusionist/artists from M.C. Escher to Octavio Ocampo to John Langdon, and more--famous paintings, dazzling photographs, computer enhanced images that will make your head spin.

The book includes a lengthy Foreword by noted graphic artist Scott Kim that, followed with a detailed Introduction from Honeycutt and Stickels, comprise a worthy encyclopedic essay on the art, form, and history that is the optical illusion. The Gallery section, the bulk of the book, is printed on high-quality paper in rich colors, a single image per page, to present the amazing artwork in the best light. Toward the end of the book is a listing of all the artists' websites where you can, presumably, surf on over to feast your eyes on even more brain-shattering illusions. Addicts to this kind of art be warned.

My opinion is that "The Art of Illusion" is destined to become a classic. A must have book for every reference library in the country. It should be adaptable for the Kindle, as well. In whatever format, if you've ever looked at a cloud and saw a horse, or a blueberry muffin, this is the book for you. Just don't forget the Visine.

Many varieties of illusions in this book. The kids keep pulling the book out and studying the images - I'm glad they're having fun with it. I enjoy it, too. Well worth the price.
