Like so many of the crafts, animation has suffered from the introduction of new technology. In this case computer-generated images have done much to displace the art of animation. It is White's intention to provide a foundation for apprenticeship training in order to preserve the animator's craft. His book is primarily a multilevel workbook. The only assumption is that the reader will be a cartoonist with an interest in animation. White lets the reader in on all pertinent aspects of animation from inbetweening to matching dialogue with the drawn pictures. At the end of each chapter there is an assignment for the practitioner. Agreeing with all the great things previously said about this book, I can only add that "The Animator's Workbook" is the best book suited for artists just starting out in animation. It is thorough, practical and motivating, without being intimidating. If you know anybody - young or old - who wants to get into animation but does not know where to start, studying "The Animator's Workbook" is a great beginning.

When I first wrote this book I never believed it would generate the interest has. It was originally conceived as a low budget paperback edition for students. However, the publisher's vision was infinitely greater than mine.....and I am extremely grateful to Watson Guptil for that. I am glad too that so many professional animators (some eventually working at my studio, Animus, in London) started with this book. It is especially rewarding when one's work touches so many people. I therefore thank all those who bought it....and especially those who worked with it. It shows the great art of drawn animation is not dead and buried just yet! Thank you one an all! Tony White.

With this book you can learn animation techniques the easy way.It has cute, easy-to-understand pictures of movements, facial expressions etc. The book is real good as an add-on or if you already know the basics of animation.

Well worth it!
I won't gloss over what's already been said about this book, but the chapter on special effect animation alone is worth the price many times over
