Nathaniel is a boy magician-in-training, sold to the government by his birth parents at the age of five and sent to live as an apprentice to a master. Loved it! The main character Nathanael is not a nice guy, but a kid who wants to get on in the world. Unfortunately he has a completely useless master, who is not even able to help him, when he is pushed around by Simon Lovelace - the wizzard who "owns" the Amulet of Samarkand. Nat wants revenge and therfore calls for Bartimäus, a djinni with great powers. As it is usual in the wizzard world, Nat expects of the djinni to do the dirty work, that is to steal the Amulet and hand it over to him. As he is bound to his master by evil spells, Bartmäus has to do the dangerous work, but there is no spell that keeps him from giving Nat a lot of lip.
Good fun and a lot of suspense! Read it!

Worum geht es im Amulet von Samarkand?
Der 12-jährige Zauberlehrling Nathaniel beschwört den mächtigen Djinni Bartimeus, um sich mit dessen Hilfe an em Zauberer und Parlamentsmitglied Simon Lovelace zu rächen, weil dieser ihn einst gedemütigt hatte. Nathaniel beauftragt Bartimeus, ihm das Amulett von Samarkand zu bringen, welches sich zur Zeit in Lovelaces Besitz befindet, doch Nathaniel hat keine Ahnung in welche Gefahr er alle bringen wird. Simon Lovelace hat bereits einmal gemordet, um in den Besitz des mächtigen Amulets zu kommen, den mit dessen Hilfe will er die englische Regierung stürzen, um selbst an die Macht zu kommen und er wird nichts unversucht lassen, um sich sein Amulet zurück zuholen. Wird Nathaniel die Menschen, die er mag beschützen können? Können er und Bartimeus Lovelaces Pläbe verhindern? Lest selbst!

So manch einer wird jetzt denken: Oh nein - nicht noch eine weitere Harry Potter Variante, aber ich kann euch versichern, daß "The Amulet of Samarkand" alles andere als eine Harry Potter Kopie ist, schon gar keine blaße. Die Welt von "The Amulet of Samarkand" ist düsterer, London (dort spielt die Geschichte) befindet sich im Krieg mit Prag, Menschen ohne Zauberkraft sind Außenseiter und die regierenden Zauberer, tun fast alles, um ihre Macht zu vergrößern. Andererseits ist "The Amulet of Samrkand" auch witzig, mitreißend und spannend erzählt, so daß man das Buch nicht mehr aus der Hand legen kann.

Zur Erzählweise: die Geschichte wird abwechselnd aus der Sicht Nathaniels (Er-erzähler) und aus der Sicht Bartimeus' (Ich-Erzähler) erzählt - dabei sind besonders Bartimeus' Randnotizen zum Schreien komisch (ich habe mehrmals laut gelacht), denn an Selbstbewußtsein mangelt es ihm nun wirklich nicht.

Beim "Amulet of Samarkand" handelt es sich um eine Triologie, daher werden natürlich noch nicht alle Probleme und Rätsel gelöst, die im ersten Teil angesprochen werden. Ich hoffe, daß die Folgebände bald erscheinen, denn ich kann es kaum abwarten die Fortsetzung zu lesen.

Ein wirklich sehr gelungenes Buch.

Die Kapitel werden abwechselnd mal aus der Sicht Nathaniels und mal aus Sicht Bartimaeus geschrieben. Letztere waren für mich immer die Besseren, da Sie erstens durchsetzt sind mit witzigen sowie sarkastischen Bemerkungen, sowie zweitens Bartimaeus dem Leser einige Zusatzinformationen via Fußnoten auf den Weg giebt (eine sehr gute Idee des Autors).

Zuerst war ich skeptisch über jene Fußnoten, da ich erwartete, dass sie den Lesefluss ins Stocken bringen. Aber schon nach den ersten Kommentaren des frechen Djinn (er will nicht Dämon genannt werden) zur Handlung im Haupttext hatte ich diese Sorge vergessen.

Die Nathaniel-Kapitel schildern den Grund, warum er aus Rache einen Djinni beschwört und seine Beziehungen zu den einzelnen Personen sehr gut. Für die Sicht eine kleinen Jungen zwischen 6-12 Jahren (man erfährt wie er sich über die Jahre entwickelt) wirkt es realistisch, wenn auch naiv. Seine Erziehung durch einem Magier hat er keine Ahnung von der "richtigen" Welt und den "normalen" Menschen, die von den Magiern beherrscht werden. Er erhält dadurch sein Weltbild, dass Menschen minderwertig sind und daher beschützt werden müssen aber sich auch zu untergeben haben.

Die dritte "Partei", der Widerstand gegen die Macht der Magier, tritt in diesem Band nur am Rande in Erscheinung und hebt somit die Spannung auf den nächsten Teil.

Einen Vergleich mit Harry P. würde ich nicht anstellen, obwohl es auch um einen jungen Zauberlehrling in London geht. Es spielt alles in einer realen Welt, es gibt keine Zauberschule usw. Die Macht der Magier basiert auf der Kontrolle von Dämonen. Keiner kann auf einem Besen fliegen. Ich sehe da wirklich keinen Zusammenhang.

Meine Empfehlung: kaufen. :-)
