I just received the new 2010 edition of the American Heritage College Dictionary. The printed dictionary is fine--good print quality (although very small print, as one would expect in a book of this size), and up to date.
However, I purchased this book primarily to receive the free software that is offered in the description: The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, and Roget's II Thesauras. Incredibly, for a book with a 2010 copyright they have included software from 2006 . . . the software does not install well on Windows Vista, and the FAQs on the web site only address issues with Windows XP (!). A publisher like Houghton Mifflin can do far better than this! I've written to customer support with a request for resolution, and will make an addendum here after I hear back from them.
Just be aware before you purchase that you're getting an updated dictionary with outdated software.
