From the author: I began exploring biscuit baking at fourteen, in an effort to please my great-grandfather. It took a while, but he ate the dreadful learning biscuits all the same. I've since learned that biscuits are a forgiving bread, easy and fast, as well as very adaptable. Almost everyone loves them, and they travel well for potlucks and picnics too. I've now been baking biscuits so long that I can do a batch of biscuits from memory. Learning to bake a good biscuit can make up for numerous shortcomings on the dinner table, even when pinching your pennies.
