A great disappointment
am 24. März 2006
Great fodder for simplistic minds. The characters connected with the legal and medical professions are caricatures who lack any authenticity or even much intelligence. As bad, the WMC characters are simply boring. This is a plot worthy of a high-school student in a creative writing class. As an avid reader and a former registered nurse, I found myself embarrassed for the authors. Surely a 'technical advisor' could have been consulted regarding hospital procedures and standards of care in nursing practice. Many of the key plot elements were laughably implausible...funny, that is, if you've checked the book out of the library. Not so funny at the novel's purchase price. I read my first James Patterson novel about 8 or 10 years ago and was floored by his ability to create suspenseful plot lines and multidimensional characters. However, I'm about ready to call it quits. I simply don't understand how a man of his ability can allow his name to be connected with such sloppy work. I've seen it happen before, though, when authors become content to coast along on their laurels rather than putting forth the effort to create something worthwhile. And in Mr. Patterson's case, the decline has been slow but sure over the past couple of years. So sad and such a loss! If you're a huge Patterson fan then by all means pick up a copy, if not go get yourself a copy of Patterson's older work or try~Giorgio Kostantinos'masterful thriller--The Quest--.
