The Abbot & Costello of law enforcement are finally back and they are funny as ever! But Stephanie and the others need to move on.
Steph and Lula are in a parking lot of a grocery store, having the munchies and debate what they would like for a snack when they witness the robbery of the place. Steph is able to make out the face of the guy who wanted to rob the store and from that moment on there is a downwards spiral in her safety.
When even Joe's home is violated by the Comestock Street Slayers (whatta' name :-)!) and word is in the streets that that there is a contract on her, she starts out on a quest for the Batcave, in order to have a relatively safe place until things settle down. Besides that Valerie and Albert Cloughn ("cuddle umpkins" and "snuggy wuggums") are getting married and have a drag-queen as a wedding planner, so Stephanie has quite a busy schedule......
YES, the latest Stephanie-Plum-Novel is funny. For example when Lula and Steph consider launching a "Chips Anonymous"-group (p.47) or when Lula is about to perfect a new technique to get down a skip, the "Lula Bootie Bomb" (p. 177), even the "flat-out-migraine-inducing-bedlam" in her family's house (p. 10) or Steph admitting that she is a "shower-gel-slut" (p.105) , BUT by now it starts getting a bit of being the same old: Steph keeps wrecking cars and getting replacements from Ranger's seemingly endless supply. She keeps being torn between Ranger and Morelli, Grandma Mazur is still keen on viewings, there is still mayhem in the Plum-household, Lula and Connie keep fanning themselves because Ranger is so hot.... This list could go on and on. Furthermore the end is far to abrupt. Once you have reached it, you turn to the next page, because you cannot believe that that has been it. But it really has! Janet Evanovich needs to let the characters move on in SOME direction, otherwise the next one might be "A Boring Eleven".
Result: Though "Ten Big Ones" did not quite turn out to what I hoped it to be, it is well worth the read, because it is funny. However, there are better Plum-novels out there -> 4*
