I am writing this to expose James K. Rollins as the talentless fraud that he is. Please don't confuse James Rollins and James K. Rollins. James Rollins (no K.) is an established and talented storyteller and New York Times best-selling author. James K. Rollins, using the old "middle initial" trick, is a hijack artist and con man.
Now, I'm no literary genius, which is obvious by my misuse of grammar and punctuation, but I'm not charging you $15 to read this. I just feel the need to do this because I'm a huge James Rollins fan. There will be no mention of the title of K. Rollins "latest" novel (and I'm using the term "novel" loosely) because it doesn't merit mentioning. I will refer to it as TVP, the initials of the title.
K. Rollins calls this his "latest" book but I can't seem to find anything else by this guy in print released prior to TVP. He has the cover art from a number of novels on his MySpace from authors like Matthew Reilly, Dan Brown, James Rollins etc...and goes on to mention all of these authors as his favorites with the exception of, guess who, James Rollins. Trying to ride on the success of the real James Rollins work? If you consider the placement of the TVP cover art next to James Rollins art, it's pretty obvious. K. Rollins also states on his own MySpace that he has "HD-ADDH" (his typo, not mine). How does someone with HD-ADHD research and write a novel containing any original thought?
Someone that was duped by the pen name trick accidentally bought TVP for me. I was suspicious but decided to give it a shot. After the first page and a half I realized what a steaming pile of garbage I was holding. I choked down about 25 more pages and couldn't take anymore. I had to stop reading before this literary dribble caused me to lose IQ points. The use of words like "sausagelike" (I'm not kidding) was laughable and exhibited a total lack of writing ability. To call K. Rollins writing style immature would be an overstated compliment.
On to the "novel" itself. The characters and storyline were exceedingly inferior carbon copies of quality work by the real James Rollins. TVP centers around a military special ops team named after a Greek letter (sounds like James Rollins Sigma series) who are highly trained soldiers AND scientists (sounds like James Rollins Sigma series) and entirely unknown to the public (sounds like James Rollins Sigma series). Even the shameful explanation of why the team got its Greek name was another attempt at ripping off a much better written idea in the novel Sandstorm. The characters were one-dimensional depictions of well thought out characters from a number of James Rollins novels. The "scientific nazi" storyline was almost a complete hijacking of the entire idea behind Black Order. I'm sure there were many more stolen ideas I could point out if I had kept reading and not returned the book to the store (I couldn't allow this guy to make a penny off of me). In short, there wasn't one original thought in the 25 or so pages that I read so I read no more.
This passage is an attempt to prevent other readers from being robbed of $14.95+tax and browbeaten by poor imagery illustrated with made-up adjectives. This waste of paper is an insult to a 3rd graders intelligence. I also hope that this brain-numbing piece of literary trash gets used to line the bottom of litter boxes and is never mistaken for an actual James Rollins novel. (Is that too harsh?)
A note TO the author. You apparently do not possess enough talent to come up with a story, character, or even pen name that would be a success on its own intrinsic worth. (Look that up if you have to.) Please don't write another book until you have developed the skill to not use a word like "sausagelike". Even you must see the error in that. And when you do, for Gods sake, CHANGE YOUR PEN NAME. I know you say you have ADHD but try to focus on....OH, look, a chair! What was I saying?
If anyone wants to read an entertaining and well-written action/drama/thriller novel, pick up any of the REAL James Rollins novels. But if you do here's one tip; Read the Sigma series in order- Sandstorm, Map of Bones, Black Order, The Judas Strain, and The Last Oracle. His stand-alone books include Subterranean, Excavation, Deep Fathom, Amazonia and Ice Hunt. Happy reading and don't be fooled by the "middle initial" trick!
