Kurzbeschreibung

SCIENCE OPENED A DOOR - SOMETHING CAME THROUGH!
(It has an agenda!)

This exciting Sci-Fi/Spiritual Warfare novel overflows with inter-dimensional visitors, psychic experimentation, threats of inter-dimensional warfare, disappearing people, lots of action, and enough romance to keep it interesting.

Professor Horace Thompson and his team have just successfully completed a world-changing experiment in the newly legitimized science of Parapsychology. Using electronic devices that boost the mind's weak ESP signals, they successfully communicated thoughts over a distance of 56 miles.

Suddenly their world changes even more. Their experiment opens a crack between dimensions and the form of a huge god-like alien temporarily materializes in front of them. Before he disappears, this apparently peaceful being informs them that his advanced race, the "Teachers", desires to not only once again assist mankind, as they have in the ancient past, but to also support them against their common interdimensional enemy.

What does it all mean? Two ancient and diametrically opposed alien civilizations have for millennia chosen the planet Earth to be the ideological arena where they confront each other. One side champions Law and a society based on unchanging Absolutes; the other promotes Liberty, License, and Free Choice.

Throughout the ages of Man, we, like unsuspecting pieces on a chess board, have been chosen to be the PLAYERS in their deadly game. But a change is taking place, one which will force every inhabitant of Earth to choose active membership in one side or the other. The alien Overlords are suddenly moving out of the shadows and our planet is about to become the devastated battleground - the Arena - where they will openly face each other in final and ultimate conflict. And God help the human who gets in their way or who chooses the wrong side!

4.0 von 5 Sternen Metaphoric Mind Games 14. September 2011
Von Amazon Customer - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
What if scientists were able to open a doorway to another dimension - specifically the realm of demons? This is the premise behind Earth The Arena - the Players. (Book 1 in a series) We are introduced to Professor Horace Thompson (affectionately known as `Doc') who has made it his life's work to investigate psychic phenomenon and prove the existence of telepathic powers. During his experiments, he actually open a gateway to demonic forces (a.k.a. Satan and his cohorts) who appear as amiable `Teachers'. On the surface, their only wish is to help mankind better itself. Two of Doc's young protégés, David and Sashi, become conduits for Pedagog and his demonic hosts, ushering in the end times complete with a rapture of the saints.

The storyline was quite intriguing and had me curious to read more. As well, R.D. Wilson's writing style is that of a metaphoric master and is quite beautiful. The figurative language literally flows like poetic torrents over a waterfall of imagery. (My feeble attempt at emulation ...) Sometimes, however, the story itself gets lost in the metaphors and one has to stop and reread just to make sense of what is actually taking place. Not that I don't like wonderful description - I do, but perhaps there is something to be said for `too much of a good thing'.

Figurative language aside, there were other aspects of the book that were a bit of a paradox. There are some very long `scientific' explanations that appear occasionally. It is all well and good to create a theory about how the spiritual dimension operates, but to have it described in textbook detail was, well ... boring. These expository sections slowed the story down, and were probably more than I needed to know. Just keep the story moving forward, please!

I was also confused by a number of characters who didn't seem to relate to anything else. They just appeared and then there was no follow up or mention of them again. (Or the reader is suddenly in their head and then they get killed off.) Perhaps this is a set up for the second novel, but I think the story would have been stronger either without them, or, if it hadn't been told from their POV.

My criticisms aside, I was intrigued by the story itself. There is definitely a promise of more action to come and I will probably read the second installment because my curiosity has been sufficiently pricked. That in itself is a good sign for any author. I would recommend it to those who like spec, sci-fi, or end times fiction. Some people may actually enjoy the `scientific' theorizing, while others may be more adept at navigating the metaphoric seas that abound in this novel.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Must Read for End Times Students 12. Juni 2012
Von Larry B. Gray - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
I really enjoyed this book. I found myself getting lost in the story and taking on the role of the unknown extra character in the background. I really like the characters and could easy identify with them. The storyline was well developed and believable. The story was riveting and the adventure was constantly building. End-times students will find this book a must read.

The only part I did not like about the book was it ended. I can hardly wait for the next installment of "Earth - The Arena" series.

I highly recommend this book.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Wonderful Christian SciFi! 19. April 2011
Von Ashley Wintters - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
This is a thrilling ride! The world changes when Horace Thompson hooks up his two helpers, David and Sashi, to the 'PAX' machine. Both have ESP capabilities and when hooked up to the machine, a door is openedthat wasn't even known to exist! Pedadog is what, or should I say who, comes through that door. He claims to be there to help humans but there is a common enemy that must be delt with first. The ride starts here and you won't put this book down.
The author does a wonderful job of making the characters real. I honestly felt like I was in the story along with them. The story also makes you think about beliefs and possibilities. There is a unique point of view and story here that I won't do 'spoilers' on but if you like SciFi, you will enjoy this book.
I rate this a 5/5. I can't wait to read the next 'chapter' in this story!

Thank you to the author for the review copy of this book. I recieved this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Not your average sci-fi book! 28. Mai 2012
Von Amazon Customer - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
I thought it was pretty cool! You've got a scientist working with psychic phenomenon trying to test his little machine with his assistants when they open a gateway! The creature in the gateway says "Oh hey what's up, we totally come in peace, and not like in that movie Mars Attacks where the aliens say We come in peace and then start shooting.. no no.. we're totally cool. It's just... well... there is this other guy.. we don't like him and... well if you're not busy.. maybe we could team up and destroy that common enemy that I just told you about." It's about science, but it's also about faith, which are two topics that are difficult to write about together, but he pulls it off well. I don't like to spoil books, but the action starts soon after the lovely trusting creature appears. It's filled with lots of metaphors and the reading flows so smoothly I couldn't believe how fast I finished it. There are some places in the story where it gets hard to pay attention, like when the scientist is explaining theories of dimensions, but it never put me to sleep. I'm definitely going to read the next book in the series.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A Great Read 25. Februar 2011
Von Nats - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
This book is a brilliantly written sci-fi adventure about spiritual warfare, and the battle of good vs. evil.

Revered college professor Horace Thompson and his two young proteges, grad student David Andrizzio and his beautiful fiance Sashi, are at the center of a scientific experiment called PAX (Psychic Amplification Experiment).

When the Professor hooks up David and Sashi (who both have extraordinary ESP abilities) to a hot-seat of special electronic devices, they open a previously sealed gateway into another dimension.

A mysterious inter-galactic being named Pedagog materializes. He calls himself and his race benign and friendly "Teachers" willing and able to teach mankind the higher levels of self fulfillment; the biggest obstacle being a common "enemy" shared by his world and ours.

Other characters in the book contribute to the roller coaster ride of world events, some of which are seemingly unfolding as I speak.

Wilson's amazingly descriptive and detailed images defy imagination. This is a great read for all who love Christian sci-fi and Christian fantasy. I'm on the edge of my seat, hurry up with the sequel!
