5.0 von 5 Sternen Perfektes Ende der Triologie! 21. Juli 2014

Hach! Kann es kaum erwarten :)

...I highly recommend "The Sweet Triolgy" by Wendy Higgins. I very much liked the first two books, but the third one was a high finale as you can only hope for. I don't remember the last time I cried so openly when reading a book. But this one really did it. Take a big box of tissues and enjoy this read - it will simply make you feel good.

Sweet Reckoning is the epic conclusion to the Sweet Trilogy by the wonderfully talented Wendy Higgins.

As sad as I am to say goodbye to this world and it's amazing characters, I was so happy that this series ended on a high note, although not without the sacrifice of characters along the way, but Sweet Reckoning will surely delight all fans and keep everyone happy.

Being the last book in a series it's hard not to give anything away whilst writing this review, because believe me there are things that occur in this book that you'll want to experience yourself without spoilers, everything is wrapped up, there are no unanswered questions left at the end and we get an epilogue that's set six years later that will catch you up on the lives of all of these characters that we've grown to love and will miss, I'm especially talking about the tall, dark and sexy bad boy Kaidan.

For those of you who read the last Lux series book Origin by Jennifer L. Armentrout, you will have noticed the use of Anna and Kaidan's names as alias' used by the main characters after the heroine read the book Sweet Evil, well I was overjoyed to see it paid in kind with Anna reading a book featuring a certain sexy alien, it's the things like this that make me love this series even more.

With the inevitable battle looming, this book will keep you on the edge of your seat as we keep our fingers crossed that all ends well for these Nephilim, and that they all get to live their happily ever afters.

This is one of the best final books of a series that I've read, and should be referred as a how to when ending a series, this was perfect and I couldn't have chosen any other way to end this trilogy.

Kudos to Wendy for taking into account what would make the fans happy and not just going for the shock value, all you need is a fantastic story told well and that's what we've been given.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Did Not Live Up To The Rest of The Series 19. Mai 2014
Von Lili's Reflections - Veröffentlicht auf
One thing's for sure: Wendy Higgins knows how to bring on the feels.

As the last book in the series, I was expecting this novel to go out with a huge bang. The first two installments, after all, were building up to an amazingly epic war between good vs. evil, those rightfully tossed from Heaven and those who want to return and have earned the right to do so. And well, that battle did take place, I suppose, if you're more for drama and antics and some cat-fighting as opposed to an all out war. I wanted the war. If I wasn't expecting the war then perhaps I would have been satisfied with the ending, but I feel almost misled. Higgins hinted that a war was coming for the previous two books and well...the war did not come. What took the place of the war was something that could occur among a rowdy group of people who had a little too much to drink alongside some crazy attempts to incite war that didn't invoke enough rage in anyone, and my disappointment was palpable. I am not the happiest of campers currently.

Another issue I had with this book was Kaiden. In the past, I loved his obsession with sex. He's the Son of Lust and it's his job. He knows what he is good at and he's there to cater to all. But this book it just got annoying. I felt like I was dealing with a 13 year old at times. There's a difference between a burning passion for sex and outright addiction that gets old after it's mentioned twice. His inclinations got way too old way too fast. There wasn't much variety and his thoughts were constantly muddied. Sure, he had his sweet moments, but they felt overpowered by sex at times. It frustrated me that the world could potentially come to an end with the sins running rampant if they lose the final battle and he's preoccupied with sex, so much so that simply patting his leg makes him moan at a dinner table with ten other people. Just stop, I can't handle this. It was very hard to take him seriously at times.

There's also way too much craziness in this plot to wrap your head around at once. I had trouble figuring out if I enjoyed this book or not because of this. There's a baby, there's sex, there's cheating, there's drinking, there's questioning sex before marriage, couples from the past hooking up while others break-up, actual marriages, death, demons, and so much more. And, typically, while I enjoy juicy plots, I don't like plots full of shenanigans. At times, I had trouble taking things seriously. I didn't really know, at all, what to think about the fact that there would be a baby in the midst--not to mention the fact that the mother of the child went into war and participated in battle while pregnant. I can't wrap my head around it! I can't wrap my head around the sex and all of this so-called amazing planning, yet having no fall-backs. I just couldn't take certain things seriously or I'm still trying to piece together my thoughts.

I think these struggles made themselves known when it came to some of the books ideals. One thing was the whole "sex before marriage thing." Anna can't have sex before marriage despite true love because she'd be considered impure, but if she has sex after a marriage consisting of a friend getting ordained and a husband in surfer pants, that's totally fine. I think that some people will agree with this and some won't, and for those who disagree with this ideal may be slightly frustrated. That's all I'm saying on the matter.

However, the thing that bugged me most was the half-naked selfie Anna sent Kaiden. At one point in the story she was missing him and she pretty much took a picture of the lower half of her body, still in underwear, but in a suggestive pose and, well, not that covered. She then freaked out and was all nervous after she sent it and felt empowered when Kaiden replied about how he just couldn't contain himself. This struck a chord with me because there was a scandal nearby my hometown with minor's spreading naked pictures because the girls felt as if they were validated if they could make their boyfriend's happy. I don't really agree with the fact that a girl has to feel empowered by showing herself off sexually. She can feel empowered by catching a guy's eyes out on the street. It's not necessary and I don't really like the message that I perceived from that scene.

In-between the frustration and the pet peeves mentioned above and the romancing, the waiting, and the running, this story was pretty solid. It was full of love between friends, Kopano still being one of my all-time favorites, and love between family as displayed by Anna, Patti, and her Father. It's really a story full of relationships and tragedy and fighting for what's right, but I can't help but be disappointed with everything mentioned above after I loved the first two books so much.

What truly redeemed this book in my eyes was the epilogue. Though cliche in the best possible way, I wouldn't have wanted this book to end any other way. It tied up all loose ends and made it impossible not to smile. And you can't help but root for all of the couples in this one, they're just so perfect together.

Good job, Wendy Higgins. I'm definitely curious to see what else you'll write for us in the future.

Warning: There is sexual instances, violence, a "nude" photo, murder, death, and underage drinking that may make young children uncomfortable.

5.0 von 5 Sternen The Unofficial Addiction Book Fan Club Review: Amazing Finale! In love with the series 23. Mai 2014

Sweet Reckoning is an epic finale for the Sweet Trilogy. I can say without a doubt that this book was one of my favorite in the series and fans won't be disappointed with it. It has everything: romance, action, friendship, unexpected turns and one ending that would make you smile like a lunatic and cry because you won't have new stories about Anna and the Neph.

In this book we get to see more about Anna and Kaidan as a couple. Anna's more secure of herself, stronger and ready to fight for a future without the Dukes.
Kaidan, on the other hand, is the perfect book boyfriend. He's no longer running from Anna and the feelings they have for each other and is willing to fight to have her. I am definitely in love with him, her british accent and his badass attitude. That hasn't change a bit. But with his new romantic side, he melt my heart!

The romance between these two was perfect and you can clearly see why they were destined to be together from the very first book. They are so much better together than apart, and having them grasping at happiness brought some of the best moments in the book.

There are new characters and the already known Neph. However, in this book, they are more unite. Maybe because the battle is near, but you get to see some of the greater moments of the whole gang together. Blake is even more hilarious. You get to know a soft side Ginger never had before. Marna is even sweeter and you can't stop smiling when she's with Anna. Jay finally gets to be (truly) inside the gang and show his caring side for one particular Neph. Kope has the chance at happiness, too. And Z stops being so afraid. The only sad part was Flynn (you'll know why I'm saying this when you read the book).
All the characters (human and Neph) were amazing. Is one of these gangs you like every single character from it, even the ones with some peculiarities.

The plot was fast paced and pretty easy to read. The author, without losing her undeniable touch throughout the story, brought a lot of action and love at the same time, without losing the main point in the story: sending the Dukes either to heaven or to Hell.
There's a lot of twists and unexpected outcomes. I was completely on edge the whole time. Not knowing what was going to happen and I was aching to see every Neph with their happy and well-deserved ending. I can assure you that there were a lot of emotions while reading the book. However, the almost-ending (moments previous, during and after the battle) was definitely the cliff-hanger in the story and Wendy Higgins completely riveted it. There were a lot of things I never saw it coming and I couldn't stop feeling sad, happy and relieved at the same time. And most important, there's nothing that leaves the reader wondering "what happened with...".

The only thing that I'd have liked to see more was to have a couple of more chapters about the lives of the Neph after the battle. We get the opportunity to read about them, but not as much as I'd have liked. Maybe because I'm one of those crazy fans that would make Wendy write about them endlessly!

Sweet Reckoning is a gripping story. A haunting story for the expected finale of the Sweet Trilogy which stayed with me long after I'd finished reading it. The only sad thing about it is not having more books to read about Anna, Kaidan and the other Neph. I adore this series and I love every single character. Even though this was the ending of the series, The Sweet Trilogy will always be one of my favorite YA series.
Sweet Reckoning is definitely the best tribute for the Sweet Trilogy and one of the best finales I've read in a series so far. I highly recommend this book to YA romance and paranormal fans. And if you have not read the Sweet Trilogy books, I say you have to give it a try. You'd be fascinated with it from the very first page.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Amazing conclusion 1. Mai 2014
Von Misha - Veröffentlicht auf
This was an amazing conclusion to the series and easily my favorite of the three books, which is saying a lot considering how much I enjoyed the first two. I laughed (I'm still chuckling over the Big Rotty chapter in particular), I cried way more than I ever would have expected, and I loved every page. Wendy Higgins did a great job of balancing action and suspense with light-hearted and romantic, tender moments. There has always been something about the relationships that Anna had with each character in this book that touched my heart, and I appreciated how all of those relationships were interconnected within this story.

Anna grew so much in this series, and I loved how strong and independent she became while still maintaining the goodness that was in her heart. She was blessed to have so many people in her life that loved and cared for her, especially Patti and her father. Her bonds with both of them were very special and a part of the book that I adored. Anna and Kaidan have been through a lot in their relationship, but I never once doubted the strength of their love. Kaidan in particular was placed in some very difficult situations in this book, ones that made me feel very uncomfortable and scared for the both of them.

We saw new sides to Kaidan in this book, and I liked every single one of them. Watching him embrace his feelings and fight for Anna was so endearing. He put himself in harm's way time and time again for her, and his devotion and genuine love for her were so palpable. I loved seeing the two of them as a couple, flirting and being so in love with one another. It provided a nice break from some of the more intense and emotional moments in the book. It was fun watching them act like normal teenagers despite the worry and stress of the impending battle. After all of the struggles and heartache, it was wonderful to seeing them find true love in each other.

I couldn't turn the pages of this book fast enough, and there was no way I was going to put it down until I reached the end. There were some great twists and turns that had me on the edge of my seat, but I think my favorite part was the whole group of characters uniting together to fight the Dukes. Each person played a part in the story, and it was lovely to see each of them find happiness, even in some unexpected ways. I really felt like everything was wrapped up wonderfully. It wasn't all sunshine and roses, but I was left feeling very happy and satisfied. Add in a beautiful epilogue that makes me tear up even thinking about it, and it was perfect. I absolutely adored this series, and I can't wait to see what Higgins writes next.

5.0 von 5 Sternen This was a fantastic ending to an unbelievably good series. 29. April 2014
Von Dark Faerie Tales - Veröffentlicht auf

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales

Quick & Dirty: This was a fantastic ending to an unbelievably good series. It is full of sexy romance, heart wrenching moments, and unforgettable characters. I would highly recommend this to anyone that is a fan of young adult paranormal books.

Opening Sentence: Not a soul in the Vegas cocktail lounge had any idea demons were in their midst.

The Review:

I want to start off by saying that this is the third and final book in the series. I am going to try to make it as spoiler free as possible, but I suggest that if you haven’t read the first two books (which you totally should because they are amazing) then you probably should skip this review.

The final showdown is about to begin and sweet Anna Whitt is going to be right in the middle of it. With a group of Nephilim allies, Anna plans to rid the earth of all the evil Dukes once and for all. But the Dukes know about the prophecy and they suspect that Anna is the Nephilim that will be their downfall, so they do everything in their power to try and stop her.

Anna goes on the run to protect those she loves and herself. But she’s not sure who she can trust and the danger just keeps escalating. In the prophecy it states that Anna must remain pure to will the sword of righteousness and this becomes extremely hard when the Duke of Lust sent his son Kaidan Rowe to seduce her. Anna will do anything to protect Kaidan and if his father finds out he failed in having his way with Anna, the consequences will be deadly. Anna will have to decide what and who she is willing to risk to bring down the Dukes.

I totally adored Anna from the very beginning and my love for her just grew more and more with each book. At first she is this very innocent and slightly naïve girl, but by the end of the series she becomes a force to be reckon with. She still has a heart made of gold and a very sweet personality, but she has grown a tough skin to help her cope with her situation. I really admired Anna’s inner strength and determination. She never gives up even when things look dire. Anna will forever be one of my favorite book characters and I am so glad I got to read her story.

Kaidan is seriously a sexy beast. I love his accent, his killer good looks, and just thinking about him makes my insides melt. I loved getting to see the more gentle side to Kai, because it just made him that much more irresistible. His love and devotion for Anna is beautiful and so heartwarming. The other thing I love about Kai is that he really isn’t perfect, because he is the son of lust he has been forced to do a lot of things that he really shouldn’t have. It has left scars that may never fully heal, but his broken side just makes him more endearing. Suffice to say, I am madly in love with Kai and he is one of my all time favorite book boyfriends.

Sweet Reckoning was an extraordinary ending to a spectacular series. It has killer romance, loveable characters, and great action. I will admit that the first half of the book was a little slower than I maybe would have liked, but the rest of it totally made up for it. There were a few plot twists that I wasn’t expecting, which really helped keep me interested through the whole book. I found that I couldn’t stop smiling while reading this book because there were just so many adorable moments. But there were also some heart wrenching moments that really made me sad, so there was a good balance. Higgins also does sexy times so well, giving you just enough, but not too much since this is a young adult series. The only way I can describe the ending is that it was total perfection. It had just enough info to leave me satisfied, but it also left a few things up to your imagination, which I really liked. This series is probably my all time favorite young adult paranormal series. I am so sad to see it end, but it will always be one that I will re-read many times in the future. If you haven’t read this series yet you honestly should, you will not regret it.

Notable Scene:

I kissed him one last time before rolling over and feeling his heat against my back as he reached around my waist and pulled me closer.

As I drifted to sleep, from a state of semi consciousness I heard him whisper, “You’re my dream. My only dream.”

FTC Advisory: HarperTeen provided me with a copy of Sweet Reckoning. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.
