Finally an author gets its right. With so many of the previous books straying from the show, i.e. mistakes with who did what, where and how; Tim Waggoner finally gets it right. Being a devoted fan of Supernatural it's hard to read a book based off of the show and the author gets the backstory wrong. For a casual reader who hasn't seen the show they won't likely notice.
I enjoyed the story, although it was hard to follow at some points, things tend to jump around a lot in the story. I was more interested in reading the parts about what was going on with the boys and had to stop myself a few times from flipping ahead to find out what's going on with Dean and especially Sam.
All in all it was a fantastic read, overall I wasn't disappointed and it was a definite page turner.
This one I am rating high and recommending to anyone interested in the SPN Series.

Tim Waggoner's Supernatural: Carved In Flesh is a good new entry into the television series' mythology. 16. Juni 2013
Von Robin Burks - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
Knowing that I was a fan of the Supernatural television series, Titan Books sent me a copy of Supernatural: Carved In Flesh for a review. Having just finished the last page, I'm happy to report that although the book takes place during the dreadful season 7 of the series, it's actually a great story that was very difficult to put down.

Carved In Flesh begins with Sam and Dean Winchester chasing down a new case. Reports of dried up husks of bodies have been reported in a small Midwestern town and they're pretty sure that finding the person or thing responsible is something only they, as hunters, can handle. But once they discover what Dean lovingly refers to as "Frankenmutt," all Hel breaks loose (and yes, I intentionally spelled that word without the extra "l" - read the book to find out why).

What I liked about this book is that although it takes place during the whole awful Leviathan incident (and what I would argue as the worst villains of the show so far), it is its own complete story. Waggoner wrote the book in such a way, though, that even new fans of the series will be able to enjoy this adventure, even if their knowledge of the Winchester brothers is limited. Waggoner does a great deal to explain their particular quirks: things like Dean's fondness for pop culture references and Sam's more secretive nature.

The plot itself is as good, if not better, than a lot of the past few season's episodes and honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing it turned into a future storyline for the brothers (minus the mention of the Leviathan). It has a lot of twists and turns and it's one of those where you think you know what the brothers are dealing with, but it turns out to be something entirely different. But at the same time, it's also similar to other villains they've had to fight. Waggoner obviously has a good handle on the show's mythology and he's used it very well in this book. What's even more fascinating is that he has created a few new back story incidents to correlate the brothers' history with what's happening to them in the present.

Supernatural: Carved In Flesh is now available on Amazon, so if you're a fan of the series, it's definitely a well-done must read.

Nice to see the boys portrayed correctly 23. April 2013

I only gave it 4 stars and can't really put my finger on why. Sam and Dean could not have been written better, their characters are spot on. I could almost see the expression on Dean's face in some of these passages. It got slow in a few places but nothing bad, it just was not one I felt I had to read in one setting. At least did not find any glaring errors about back history, which always makes me snarl. ;)

Wish we walked more with the Winchesters, but still a fun read 14. Juli 2013
Von Kris - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

This was my first Supernatural book, so I can't compare it to the others that are out there. That said, it was a fun read in and of itself. When it comes to television spinoff stories, I'm usually not expecting blow-your-mind literature, and at best I hope for an accurate portrayal of the characters and story I love.

In that respect, Waggoner did a great job. I could easily hear Jensen and Jared delivering the dialogue of this book, and the general behavior of the guys felt true to the original material. Sam struck me as more book smart than what I'm used to, but not enough to throw him out of character. References to *canon* background were kept fairly minimal, so there wasn't much opportunity for error that would upset the diehard fans, either.

The only thing I disliked about the story was that scenes jumped back and forth between the brothers and the antagonists. Because of that, we always knew what the bad guys were up to before Sam and Dean could find out for themselves. Since it's a given that neither Sam or Dean would be permanently killed off in the story, this dampened a lot of the suspense. The reader, almost always, will know who's going to attack the guys and when. I'd have preferred that we learn the motives of the villains and watch the events unfold alongside the Winchesters, rather than apart from them.

Oh - and while I saw that some readers didn't care for the side story that involved a flashback into the brothers' past, I thought it was one of the most interesting parts of the book. The flashbacks (which take place when Dean is in his early teens) are heavy, but I found them to be more exciting than the main story.

So, bottom line: If you're a Supernatural fan and are interested in stepping into the world of the Winchesters outside of the TV show, this is a good place to start. If you're NOT a fan of the show, I'm not sure that this book will endear you to the characters enough to win you over, but you'll definitely be able to follow along and enjoy the ride.

The best Supernatural novel BY FAR 23. Mai 2013
Von Amazon Customer - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
I have read almost all the Supernatural novels written. With that said I consider that Tim Waggoner is not only true to character but also has some ideas that the writers of the show should look into. I browse the fanfiction sites hungrily looking for material as gripping and thrilling as this. After reading some amazing amateur writers (and some not so good) I think that reading this novel is like watching an extremely good episode, with some great things that hardly ever happen in the show. Mr. Waggoner introduces H/C without making it central to the story. He also uses a monster never explored in the show that might have been dumb in another context, but works great in this book.
I hope Mr. Waggoner writes more Supernatural novels so we can keep enjoying the show long after the boys jump the shark... which in my opinion happened two seasons ago!
