Dieses Buch ist ein Leitfaden für Architekten in Form von Faustregeln. Mit seiner Hilfe können Architekten zu Beginn des Planungsprozesses Energiefragen klären. Es gliedert sich in 3 Teile (Analysetechniken, Designstrategien und Entwürfe zur Ergänzung passiver Systeme) und erlaubt ein schnelles Fortschreiten von der Planungsidee bis zur Ausführung.
Sonne, Wind und Licht sind Naturkräfte, die die Form eines Gebäudes und auch den Energiefluß im Gebäude wesentlich beeinflussen. Diese Naturkräfte sind Variablen, die ein Architekt so früh wie möglich in den Planungsprozeß mit einbeziehen sollte. So sollte z.B. in heißen Klimaten das Tageslicht in einem Raum vorzugsweise maximiert und die entsprechende Sonneneinstrahlung minimiert werden.
