Der Autor über sein Buch

Why this managers edition of Sun Tzu?
In reading Sun Tzu, I found it difficult to understand the meaning of some passages. As I read other translations, I discovered new information because each individual translated the Chinese ideogram with different meanings based on his personal background. After years of research, I collected all the English language translations and used this information to clarify Sun Tzu's strategic concepts.

On a trip to Beijing, I secured this new translation by Chinese scholars and used it as the basis for this new work. I have divided "The Art of War" into 50 discrete sections each setting forth a different strategic thought. The translated copy is on the left page along with appropriate clarification from other translators. The facing page contains commentary about how this strategic thought applies to business situations.

In summary, this book has three unique features: 1. A new translation. 2. Clarifies Sun Tzu's words by comparing passages with other translations. 3. Useful examples of how others have applied key strategic principles.

The value of Sun Tzu's work is its ability to simplify the complexity of strategic thinking. The major value of this work is clarification of the original work along with advice for practical application. My wish is that you will find this book an enjoyable read and useful in your business and personal life. -- Dieser Text bezieht sich auf eine vergriffene oder nicht verfügbare Ausgabe dieses Titels.

Being a science and engineering student and not a manager, I may have a different perception of what Sun Tsu's book is all about, but I read Michalson's work with great interest and appreciation nevertheless. I'd already read another copy of Sun Tsu (in a German translation), where the examples were taken from ancient Chinese warfare and still had the impression to learn something new.

First a slight critic on the language: the writing is quite high-styled which makes it sometimes difficult to digest for a non-native reader.

The contents: although I'm only a novive in the eastern boardgame of GO, I've felt that there is more to Sun Tsu than Michalson tells us. In his business examples - which are mostly about American companies I do not know - he puts an overemphasis to some aspects and neglects others of Sun Tsu's sayings. Nevertheless, he creates a _very_ good intoduction to strategic thinking in business and - I have to admit it, I've taken the bait - makes business appear to be a really exciting and thrilling thing! Michaelson's subject, predicate, and direct object style of writing in "Sun Tzu:The Art of War for Managers" makes this reading a professional must for all hands who would venture into the marketing wars. Michaelson applies Sun Tzu's ancient theories on the strategy (Doing the right thing!) and tactics (Doing things right!)to the dynamics of corporate business today.Michaelson has condensed much of the previous good information he passed in his earlier book, "Winning the Marketing War".I would recommend this latest effort by Gerald Michaelson to all young Americans entering the competitive world of business. As a former Marine, I would place it at the same level as our "Small Wars Manual" and the "Landing Party Manual", and these manuals equated to the Bible as far as I was concerned. The truth is out there, and Gerald Michaelson will help to show you the way. Semper Fidelis, Bruce M. Mac Laren Colonel, U.S. Marine Corps (ret)

Mr. Michaelson displayed a rare ability to explain the Chinese version into a understandable text. Success in todays manufacturing world is hard to come by. The knowledge gained regarding marketing strategy and process improvement techniques has become very valuable in my personal career as a Materials Manager.
