I am almost done reading the original version of this book. I read the unschooling handbook and was sold on the idea. This book takes the concepts a step further, going into the psychology behind the radical notions of freedom and self-regulations for children. The concepts can be bewildering because they are so new, but I plan to reread the book so I can explore this new path that promises happy children who follow their hearts and become balanced adults. The book has inspired me and given me more hope for the future.

If you haven't read it, read what inspired my lifetime career: Anyone who read this book and is interested in such ideas, know that I have a 6 year plan to start such a school. It'll be a 9-12 boarding school, and children will LEARN. If you are interested in helping or in updates on this, please contact me.

A seemingly timeless work on education by A. S. Neill, it remains very little dated and is still a useful reference work for parents and educators. A good many of Mr. Neill's suggestions seem just as impractical as they must have done fifty years ago, yet we can hardly discard them on that basis alone. It's a challenging book for a new decade (another one) in dire need of new ideas. If you haven't read it recently, or haven't read it at all, it is a very inexpensive and painless way for you to make some positive difference in your attitude to children, whether they be your own or other people's.
