In SUICIDE RUN, the apparent suicide of a beautiful young starlet turns out to be much more sinister than it seems. In CIELO AZUL, Bosch is haunted by a long-ago closed case - the murder of a teenage girl who was never identified. As her killer sits on death row, Bosch tries one last time to get the answers he has sought for years. In ONE DOLLAR JACKPOT, Bosch works the murder of a professional poker player whose skills have made her more than one enemy. Whether investigating a cold case or fresh blood, Bosch relentlessly pursues his quarry, always on the lookout for the "tell". In this first collection of Harry Bosch stories, Michael Connelly once again demonstrates that he is 'the greatest living American crime writer' (MIRROR).

4.0 von 5 Sternen Harry Bosch - always worth reading, ... 10. Dezember 2012
Von miki101.Michaela TOP 100 REZENSENT
Format:Kindle Edition
... also if the first two stories of this collection seem to be written as some kind of first or max second draft, to be - maybe - elaborated later...

I like Michael Connelly and the way he writes and I love Harry Bosch, and so I would buy also a shopping list of those two long-time friends of mine.
But this time, because of some missing pieces, only a 4-star rating.

In SUICIDE RUN I had the feeling that the story came absolutely to an much too abrupt end...
There was far more potential in the story than has been utilised by the author. Hollywood, a young, very beautiful "Marylin Monroe" - called like that because of the way she - apperently - chose her exit out, the search for similar cases - there should have been more. But it's an easy read and got my interest.

The second one CIELO AZUL is the one that has a more of humaneness inside than the usual crime short stories...
Harry Bosch drives up to St. Quentin to ask a killer awaiting to meet the Needle ONE question - only that a killer is always a killer for some reason. And that a man of his kind hasn't one shred of humanity left in his flesh, blood and bones. A very gripping but sad, sad read.

The third story is the longest of the three and also the most elaborated. In ONE DOLLAR JACKPOT Harry Bosch has to find the killer of a beautiful poker player, shot dead without even register that fact. And there will be our hero Harry who has learned a trick or two from his now estranged ex-wife - and that will nail a killer for good!

I am not too angry about the excerpt of The Drop (A Harry Bosch Novel), I have read it and the latest

2.0 von 5 Sternen Love Connelly......But! 3. Oktober 2011

I won't further elaborate on what the other reviewers have already stated about this not being up to Connelley's standards, though I agree. I might have been able to overlook that, after all nobody can be at the top of their game all the time, and well Bosch is still Bosch and always worth the read. However, I finished this book in under 30 minutes, not just one story...the book. These weren't short stories, they were barely longer than an average book description. What was really bad was that 1/4 of the entire book is a preview for "The Drop". I don't want to just read a couple of chapters of a book and then wait another two months to continue.

4.0 von 5 Sternen It's always great to read about Bosch 1. Oktober 2011

Harry Bosch is, for me, like an old friend. I really love this tough guy.

Since his last book was Nine Dragons, 2009 (I know, there's the Reversal, 2010, but I feel this more like a Mickey Haller than a Bosch book...), I missed him a lot.

This is why I'm giving this collection of short stories four stars... I don't know when they were written, but I have to tell you they did not seem like the usual Connelly. There is a certain amateurism, specially in the first story - which names the book. I almost laugh at one particular point, with this tacky, cliche sentence:

"Someone had picked this flower just as it had been about the bloom."

The second story is a little better, although being told in first person, which still feels weird when it comes to Bosch, at least for me (the two books where he is retired and kind of private-eyeing are not my favorites exactly because of the first person style, despite the good plots).

The last story is actually really good and there I felt I was reading a classic Harry Bosch. It's also the longest one.

All in all it is a good buy. After all, it's always great to read about Bosch!

1.0 von 5 Sternen Not up to Michael Connelly standards 1. Oktober 2011

So disappointed in these short stories. I get the feeling they were ideas for possible books that never got written. As one other reviewer mentioned they are very amatuerish and seen "unedited". I just cancelled my preorder for the Nov. 2011 release of the same format by Connelly. I love this author but these come nowhere near his usual.

1.0 von 5 Sternen Junk -- just really short previews 23. Oktober 2011

Don't bother buying this book, it's nothing more than marketing teaser junk. I would be ashamed as an author to put stuff like this out. Watch out for the other (still pre-order) "3 books for 2.99" piece of junk that comes out in November (Angle of Investigation).

I got sucked into buying both as a long time Connelly / Harry Bosch fan, but was able to cancel my other "3 books" just now to avoid the pain. I've also asked for a refund for this one, since I think it's blatant false advertising.

For the record, I've read and enjoyed ALL the Harry Bosch books in hardcover, rereading them multiple times. I like them so much for escapism that I thought it was great that I could get them on my Kindle.

Boy was I unpleasantly surprised.

If you like reading a few pages that go nowhere for a few bucks, then this marketing teaser junk might be for you. But it's sure not for me.

I was expecting a lot from this book since I am an avid fan of Connelly, however I was feeling a little bit cheated because the book sounded like it was from a new author and not from the famous Michael Connelly.
