Revenge is the engine which powers Sanford's seventh "Prey" thriller starring superslick Minnesota cop Lucas Davenport. When a dangerous female bank robber is killed in a shootout, her even more dangerous husband escapes from prison and begins a campaign of retribution against the families of Davenport and his team. As always with Sandford, excellent writing is the icing on an enjoyable cake. (Other Sandford "Prey" books: Eyes of Prey, Mind Prey, Night Prey, Rules of Prey, Silent Prey, Winter Prey.)

“Relentless…a thriller that will make your hair stand on end.”--Publishers Weekly

“Grabs you by the shirt from the start.”--Chicago Tribune

“ an intelligent, mesmerizing hero.”--Orlando Sentinel

“A wonderful novel peopled with unforgettable characters. The tension never stops.”--The Orange County Register

“Fans of previous Sandford novels will be thrilled.”--Booklist

    Sudden Prey delivers!”--Omaha World-Herald

4.0 von 5 Sternen Gets Better As it Moves Along 3. Juli 1997
    Von Ein Kunde
This was the first Sanford book I've read, and it won't be the last. It will never win my "Book of the Year" award, but it was a better than average, entertaining read.

My only complaint is that early on, there are too many characters introduced too quickly, and it easily confused as to who is who. But as it moved on, and the story spread out, that problem diminished. It's not the most original novel, but that's not what Sanford's shooting for here. He's shooting for In-Your-Face, Fast Paced supsense - and he delivers!

Anybody who is a fan of TV shows like "NYPD Blue" or "Murder One" will appreciate this book. The fast paced, back and forth action takes on a similar pattern to these shows.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Sandford pushes Davenport to the limit. 22. August 1997
Poor Lucas! The man is close to breaking point. In the midst of the fury he is seen to be laughing, with a dead cop close by no less. How much longer 'til he loses it for good. Weather is his alter ego, devoting her life to the restoration of the human body. Can she restore Lucas? It is quite clear that Mr. Sandford is gearing up for the final Davenport outing - could it be "Let us Pray"? Either that or he gets married and settles down to a life of wedded bliss and devotes himself to creating crime games while the bad guys go about their business. I don't think so. Anyway, "Sudden Prey" is a rip roaring read but as I said, the man is a basket case (Davenport that is)

4.0 von 5 Sternen Great twists, suspense, drama 11. Februar 1999
    Von Ein Kunde
I gobbled this "Prey" Book as I have all since "The Rules of Prey." This book has all the great, intense drama and suspense as they all have. The LaChaise's were perhaps not the most evil villians that Sanford has come up with but they definitely grab you by gut. Lucas Davenport continues to interest. Will his relationship with Weather survive? Is he really just the toughest no-nonsense, blow-em-away cop around? I suspect he teeters on the edge of a personal decision. May he forever be the true hard a--!

I have read all of Mr. Stanfords books, looking forward to Davenports next move. Mr. Stanford keeps you on edge and when you least expect it, Davenport wins again. This is an excellent book series. I read that Sudden Prey was going to be aired as a movie. I hope Mr. Stanford never lets Davenport die, espeically the Nun. The team work between the detectives should be made into a TV series. Keep them coming Mr. Stanford. Davenport is just too cool to be written off and too cool to let anyone/anything stop him.

I started this book at 4:30 pm in the Columbus, Ohio airport and finished this 370 page book later the same day. When the pilot announced that there would be a 45 minute air traffic control delay flying into Boston, I didn't care...I was on page 200!

This is not great literature, but given the genre, the author delivers! A credible plot and characters gives this book an edge up on standard airline fare.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Perfect airline read. 4. Juli 1997
    Von Ein Kunde
This is the first "Prey" book I have read and after reading this book I am going to pick up the other John Sandford books. Having lived in Minneapolis for four years I found this particular book to be a very exciting read. (But you don't have to be from Minnesota to enjoy the book.) Sandford's protagonist is a very interesting character of which you will want to read more of his adventures

5.0 von 5 Sternen No disappointment with any of Sanford's books 18. September 1997
    Von Ein Kunde
I have read all of John Sanford's books in order and have enjoyed each and every one of them. Once you read one you should be hooked. I look forward to the next book as much as I look forward to finishing the current one. Reading Sanford's books in order (Prey series) you watch Det. Davenport evolve. It is nice to read and follow his life. No disappointment here

    4.0 von 5 Sternen Unrelenting Violence 12. Mai 1997
Usually fictional violence doesn't bother me, but the violence in this book is over the top. I've read all of Sandford's "Prey" series (liked them all) and they all had some tough parts but they were balanced with lighter moments. This book seemed unbalanced to me. Maybe I just wasn't in the right kind of mood for such a dark story. Bummed me out
