Über den Autor
Martha Cooper ist freie Fotojournalistin und seit über 25 Jahren auf urbane Straßenkunst und Architektur spezialisiert. Ihre Fotos wurden weltweit veröffentlicht und ausgestellt. 1966 erhielt sie ihr Diplom in Ethnologie in Oxford, England und kehrte 1967 in die Vereinigten Staaten zurück, um am Smithsonian Institut in Washington D.C. zu arbeiten, bevor sie eine Kuratoren-Assistenzstelle am Museum der Universität in Yale antrat. Sie arbeitete drei Jahre als Fotografin bei der NewYork Post, gab diese Anstellung aber 1980 auf, um mehr Zeit zu haben für die Fotografie von U-Bahn Graffiti und Breaking. Martha Cooper ist Fotodirektorin bei City Lore, dem New Yorker Zentrum für urbane Volkskunst. Sie lebt und arbeitet in New York.Henry Chalfant, geboren 1940 in Pennsylvania, studierte Griechisch als Hauptfach an der Stanford University. Später ging er einer Karriere als Bildhauer nach und stellte seine Arbeiten in New York und Europa aus. Danach wendete er sich der Foto- und Filmdokumentation zu, um die Hip Hop Kultur und die Graffiti Kunst stärker zu beleuchten.

There is not much to say: This book is the bible of graffiti and everyone who calls himself a writer should own one!
The Atmosphere in this novel of trainwriting is so holy, that your fingers begin to tickle and you want to draw, draw, draw.
Whatever, people who don't like oldschool and who don't have the respect for the writers who let graffiti grow tall, should think of not buying this. Every page is history and you won't find newschool clean pieces with hours of work here. But for everyone, who wants to learn something about the background of what he throws on a sheet of paper, a wall or a train: BUY THAT DAMN THING! But make sure you have enougth space, it's soo huge!
I love this piece of graffiti history, and so should you!!!
