Calvey Taylor-Haw has over 30 years' experience as an Advertising Still Life photographer. He has run his own studio for 25 years, shooting for many blue-chip clients. He specializes in hair-care products, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals among other subjects, and has also built up a reputation as a leading food photographer. His photographs have illustrated many books worldwide.

Dieses Buch widmet sich fast ausschließlich der Produktfotografie und geht kaum auf wesentliche Dinge der Belichtung ein. So werden hier nicht wie man erwarten könnte verschiedene Blitzarten vorgestellt, sondern lediglich Produktarrangements und deren Beleuchtung im konkreten Fall. Wer sich also mit Produktfotografie beschäftigt dürfte hier einen guten Ratgeber und jede Menge Tipps und Tricks erfahren, wer jedoch überwiegend Menschen fotografiert wird hier nicht auf seine Kosten kommen.

Dieses Buch demonstriert anhand von konkreten Beispielen jede Art der Beleuchtung, ob für Glas, Metall oder Food. Sogar die Beleuchtung für Portraits und Tiere wird erklärt. Zu jedem Foto gibt es eine Illustration, in dem der Aufbau gezeigt wird. Außerdem wird erwähnt welche Lichtformer und Effektvorsätze benutzt wurden. Ein Handbuch, welches hilft jedes Beleuchtungsproblem zu lösen. Absolut empfehlenswert.

This book offers several lighting examples graphics to show approximate lighting configurations. I would expect from a book with Bible in its title to be a little more technical, but in this book there is no reference to lighting ratios nor the different types of lighting in different positions. As an example what type of light source is best for the main light, what type of light source is best for the kicker light, what type of light source is best for the hair light, WHAT are good ratios between hair light kicker light and main light. If the author chose not to influence the reader with "best use" there could have been some comparative photos to show the differences between lighting setups.
This book is better used as a coffee table book instead of an instruction manual. I am disappointed.

This book does not live up to it's title. If you are looking for a technical reference book to all aspects of studio lighting, lighting equipment, technology and techniques then you will be disappointed.
This book gives simple examples of different subjects and genres with nice photo's and a basic description of the lighting setup involved.
I'm only an amateur and found this book disappointing as I thought I'd find all my answers and learning in one book. I'm going to have to purchase individual books on studio lighting get the technical help I was looking for.

I'm an art director who has more of a background in print than photography so I was looking for a good quick reference. I do 3D rendering for print and lighting is a big part of that work. This book looked like it would be perfect but the quality of the lighting is very amateurish and despite the variety, the results are rarely compelling. In place of constructive "how to use the softbox," type knowledge is dubiously canned ways of shooting "family", "soup", "computers" and the content feels interchangeable and dull. I don't mean to insult the photographer but the cheesy motifs look dated so overall, there's not much to take away. The blown out whites just top off the low quality overall.
