5.0 von 5 Sternen Great guide for bodyweight exercises 16. März 2013
Von Reviewer - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
I've been including bodyweight exercises quite a while now in my workout routines since they're perfect for travelling or in times where a gym membership is not feasible. Strong Anywhere helped me to add more variation into my workouts by providing tons of different exercise executions. Since nobody wants to read huge walls of text I'll keep it simple and short.

CONTENT: (Keep in mind bodyweight exercises almost always train muscle groups so there's no real seperation)
* Why Bodyweight Exercises
* Pull Movements
* Lower Body Movements
* Core Movements
* Push Movements
* Workout Programming

GOOD:
* Tons of different variations for all exercises (like Push Ups, Pull Ups, Squats)
* Exercises are ordered by difficulty
* Order allows you to make progress and improve technique
* How, Where and Why is covered in every explanation exercise
* Photos for each exercise
* How much and how often and why covered in last chapter with example workout schedule

BAD:
* No TOC (sometimes hard to browse through book)

5.0 von 5 Sternen An outstanding resource. 3. März 2013

I've been powerlifting for 25+ years and recentlly have embraced BW movements as a break for my aging and injured joints and as adding something fresh into my workouts. Like many lifters I've had preconceived notions that BW training dosen't provide enough progressive overload unless you'er using added weight (which I sitll utilize). Well this book with allay those concerns in the first few pages. I got the book last night and I couldn't wait to do some of the pull-up variations this morning. I found that I'm a long way away from several of the more challenging variations and this excites me as it will give my joints a break while allowing me to have the most fun in the gym in years.

Unless you're a real devotee of BW workouts there will be numerous exercises in this book that are new and applicable to any workout program. Every exercise comes with color photos and for the more complicated ones Simon has youtube instructionals that can be found on his web site.

The book starts with a bit of BW preaching and a bit of anti-traditional lifting bias but it's not to the point of being a turn off. The narative is easy to read and concise. I can't say enough about the economy of writing, this book gets to the point and stays there. Unlike what another reviewer said I can care less about the vulgarity in the book and it's not to the point of distraction except for those with the frailist of sensibilities.

In short this book is packed with great exercises that are explained and shown in a simple and easy to understand manner. I can't recommend it enough.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Fantastic collection of exercises; teaches the proper mindset for crazy strength 20. Juni 2013

Strong Anywhere is one of the best books on Bodyweight training I have found.

People generally stay away from bodyweight stuff because:
1. They want to look like HUGE bodybuilders
2. Because the bodyweight stuff they know about is either too easy (like basic pushups/situps) or TOO hard (like gymnastics exercises)

Fortunately, for people who fall under #2, Boulter's use of progressions helps you transition from the basic exercises that many people can do towards the intense, ultra-impressive feats normally reserved for gymnasts. By doing easy then basic then intermediate then advanced exercises, one can move towards incredible strength in a logical progression.

For people with the 1st concern:
Boulter's book will make you super powerful and ripped and bigger, but it will probabally not make you as big as a WWE wrestler or a professional bodybuilder. Basically, bodyweight exercises require a high strength:weight ratio. Doing bodywiehgt stuff will make you very strong pound for pound. Additionally, when you are strong pound-for-pound, you will still probabaly be able to bench/squat/press more than many of the biggest guys in your gym, however, you will not be as LARGE as them. If enormous size is what you want, get on Riptoe's starting strength, eat huge amounts of protein, learn how to use creatine. If strength and power is what you want, buy Boulter's book.

I liked it because SImon Boulter does a really good job educating readers about "PROGRESSIONS" which I think are the key to building the strength necessary to do exercises like Levers, Planche, one arm pull ups, one leg squats, etc. He walks you through the exercises and explains how and why to train in particular exercises. Progressions are exercises that fall inbetween the easiest version of an exercise and the most difficult. For instance, for pullups, the easiest exercise is the chin-up. an intermediate exercise is the overhand pullup. harder than that is a wide grip pullup. Harder than that is a clapping pullup. Harder than that is a one arm pullup. Harder than that is one hand pullup. The exercises between the normal chinup and the one arm pullup are the progression exercises.

I liked the book because like Boulter, I'm training hard for Martial Arts and I cannot afford to pay pricy gym memberships (on my student budget). I am finding that in order to get to my maximum strength, I need to refine and strengthen my internal drive, my reslience, and my will power to overcome everything from fatigue to lazyness. Bodyweight training is really useful for me, because it forces me to be honest with myself, and it forces me to constantly ask the question: Am I giving it 110% ? Each time I do a rep, I can tell if I am cheating the rep, if my form is bad, if I am allowing my inner weakness to destroy my workout, and that realization forces me to be more disciplined.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Body-weight exercises for the beginner and the advanced 2. März 2013
Von J. Testerman - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

I enjoyed reading this book. Simon did a good job of covering body-weight exercises that anybody can do. I like his format of covering different exercise groups.

He covers the why of exercising this way and the how. It is easy to follow and is on point.

He doesn't overwhelm you with too much yet gives you as much as you can use for years to come.

I would have liked to see him not use as many crude words in his instructions, they were unnecessary and did not add to the integrity or the quality of the book. But there weren't so many that I had to put the book down.

His advice is practical and sensible. A good book to add to your exercise collection.

A great value for the price!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Short, to the point, good information 5. Juni 2013

After over 20 years of weight training I grew tired of the monotony and reoccurring injuries. So, I decided to shift my strength routine over to body weight training. I have read several books on body weight training the best of which were Convict Conditioning and You Are Your Own Gym. I am always on the lookout for additional information and often search the internet for free info and check Amazon for new book titles.

What drew me to this book was the price, only $4.99 (for Kindle). I purchased it and read it over the course of a few nights. I was pleasantly surprised. There is very little fluff in this book. It is short and to the point (“Just the facts ma’am!”). Most of the exercises I have seen before, but there were several of which I was unaware. I am currently working on pistol squats but have been struggling with flexibility and range of motion. The author (Simon Boulter) provides several excellent exercises, which are new to me, that I will incorporate into my routine to help reach my goal quicker.
