Kurzbeschreibung

30. Juni 2002 Bruce Lee Library
Within the pages of Striking Thoughts, you will find the secrets of Bruce Lee's amazing success— as an actor, martial artist, and inspiration to the world. Consisting of eight sections, Striking Thoughts covers 72 topics and 825 aphorisms—from spirituality to personal liberation and from family life to filmmaking—all of which Bruce lived by.

His ideas helped energize his life and career, and made it possible for him to live a happy and assured life, overcoming difficult obstacles with seeming ease. His ideas also inspired his family, friends, students, and colleagues to achieve success in their own lives and this personal collection will help you in your journey too.

Sections include:
  • On First Principles—including life, existence, time, and death
  • On Being Human—including the mind, happiness, fear, and dreams
  • On Matters of Existence—health, love, marriage, raising children, ethics, racism, and adversity
  • On Achievement—work, goals, faith, success, money, and fame
  • On Art and Artists—art, filmmaking, and acting
  • On Personal Liberation—conditioning, Zen Buddhism, meditation, and freedom
  • On the Process of Becoming—self-actualization, self-help, self-expression, and growth
  • On Ultimate (Final) Principles—Yin-yang, totality, Tao, and the truth
"A teacher is never a giver of truth—he is a guide, a pointer to the truth that each student must find for himself. A good teacher is merely a catalyst."—Bruce Lee

Pressestimmen

"Since he himself would not wholly accept any particular style of martial art or philosophy, Bruce encouraged his students not to accept, without question, his teachings. His main message was to keep one's mind, attitude, and senses pliable and receptive, and, at the same time, develop the ability to think correctly. This process of inquiry, debate, and practice would lead not only to knowledge of one's physical strengths and weaknesses but also to the discovery of basic truths that allow one to grow toward a state of harmonious unity of spirit, mind, and body."—Linda Lee Cadwell, from her preface

"He was a teacher first of all. He taught philosophy and tried to spread knowledge and wisdom…The integrity with which Bruce Lee lived his life and tried to uphold what he believed to be right—that is a clear example of how it ought to be done. No matter what it is you're doing, do it with total honesty and total dedication. He definitely influenced me."—Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

"I thought Bruce was a brilliant, fine philosopher about everyday living. He was very much into finding out who he was. His comment to people was 'Know yourself.' The good head that he acquired was through his knowing himself. He and I used to have great long discussions about that. No matter what you do in life, if you don't know yourself, you're never going to be able to appreciate anything in life. That, I think, is today's mark of a good human being—to know yourself."—Steve McQueen

"Bruce's philosophy seemed always to be going back to the Zen origins, where contradictory advice states the simplest of truths. Bruce's lessons were lessons without being lessons; he was not a teacher, yet he was the greatest teacher I've ever known."—Stirling Silliphant

"For every question you asked him he would never have to think about it, he would just blurt it right out. Bruce would cover every point with a little saying. If he would see that you were having trouble with something, he would always know just what to tell you. It would seem like he was always dusting off your 'bogie man.' Like if there was something that you were scared of, Bruce would notice and then say 'Ah, scared of that, well look at it this way.' He would change your whole idea about it. Bruce had sayings for everything."—Bob Bremer, student of Bruce Lee

"We'd work out for an hour, then we'd talk for an hour about a lot of things. He didn't separate life from the extension in his arm. And he is the only one I know of that carried it to the point of real art."—James Coburn

Synopsis

Bruce Lee was more than just a man of action - he was a man of words. A voracious reader, Lee studied text after text, taking meticulous notes to devise his theories both in fighting and in life strategy. For the first time in paperback, John Little, who was granted exclusive access to Lee's notebooks, presents Lee's writing, which outlines the techniques and philosophies Lee used to develop his personal philosophy and the fighting system of Jeet Kune Do.

Life simply is. - Living exists when life lives through us - unhampered in its flow, for he is living is not conscious of living and, in this, is the life it lives. Lesen Sie die erste Seite

5.0 von 5 Sternen Bruce Lee's Greatest Work! 9. März 2000
Von Ein Kunde
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
This book could easily have been retitlted "Bruce Lee Speaks To Everyone" for there is something of great worth for anyone who takes the time to pick up this book. My sister, who doesn't care a whit for fighting, picked up this book and has now purchased her own copy to carry with her to school. Bruce Lee's philosophy, which is more like deep yet practical insights into life is magnificent. Topics covered range from relationships, racism, love, parenting, dealing with adversity, money, business and motivation, to the more profound topics such as life, death and spirituality. This is by far the greatest Bruce Lee book I've ever read and something I will refer to again and again.

1.0 von 5 Sternen Disappointing 9. April 2005
Von Ein Kunde
Format:Taschenbuch
I always admired and still admire Bruce Lee as a martial artist however this book is a clear prove that if he was everything he definitely wasn't a philosopher. He is prone to oversimplification and his thoughts are definitely neither striking nor cut through. Philosophy went beyond his capabilities.

4.0 von 5 Sternen A new side to a well known man 30. September 2003
Von Don Gunn - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
Before finding this book I was unaware of Bruce Lee's work in Philosophy. I am a Phil major myself, and I found the balance of western and eastern thought refreshing. A lot of Philosophy is grouped in long wordy essays that make it somewhat a stratified ivory tower type of field. Lee's book is organzied in easy to read, simple koans, proverbs and sayings.
To one who has read a great deal of Buddhism, Pyschology, or Eastern thought, they may read a lot of what they may have already read. But this book doesn't disappoint, there are some quality nuggets in here. Bruce says much in few words, his eloquence can be stunning & profound.
Although I'm not really into martial arts or anything like that I always revered him in a certain light, in fitness, command, and eloquence.
Worth a read, I have new respect for Bruce Lee.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Should Be a Best-Seller! Great insight on life! 1. Dezember 2000

Here's an encyclopedia of personal development advice from an unlikely source. While most people may be attracted to Bruce Lee because of his movies or the legend he left behind, I'm more impressed by his courage and compassion. John Little did a great job editing this treasure. I'd recommend it to any man that I thought needed a boost in confidence and direction.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A look at the mind behind the legend. 31. Mai 2006
Von Amazon Customer - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch|Verifizierter Kauf
This book has great insights to many aspects of life. It is a must have for all martial artists, both teachers and practitioners. Mr. Lee was a very profound man, with not only insights to martial arts, but into life as well. These insights came from his ongoing quest to learn and progress not only as a martial artist but as a person aw well. This book provides people with a look at the mind behind the legend. If you are looking for insights, philosophies, or simply quotes this book is for you.

4.0 von 5 Sternen a good read 7. Oktober 2004
Von Sam - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
When i first saw this book in "Borders" I did not take it seriously at all. I almost laughed because it was from Bruce Lee. Nonetheless I decided to read a few pages and I found it to be interesting. I have read some other reviews of this book on here and they were very negative. It seems that these people have something personal against Bruce Lee for some reason or another. Anyway, i just read this book as a glimpse into someone else's mind. I'm no Bruce Lee freak or anything, to me he was just another man and his movies were ok. What is important is that you realize that this person was a man just like any other man who walked the earth and had his own experiences and his words mean something regardless of a philosophy college course or regardless of him being an actor. When I read the book i'm not looking for the meaning of life (although Bruce Lee does give what he BELIEVES to be the meaning of life). I just take the positive elements that i agree with and apply them to my life in which ever way i can because as the book says you won't gain enlightenment from reading a mere book.

I have read other books on the mind and thought and there are some similarities with this and others, but is it not likely that Lee also read these books and agreed with the writers? There is the saying that great minds think alike. If you enjoy reading inspirational books pick this up.
