Can two hearts be forged into one?

Cami Montgomery stole a car and smashed it into the front of a building in upscale Beverly Hills after a lousy date with the epitome of sleaze balls. The worst part, her parents are following through on threats after this latest plea for attention. Banished from her L.A. paradise and plunged into the Appalachian Mountains with her industrious aunt and uncle, Cami is about to find out how precious life really is.

Stockton Wright has been thrust into a hard life. He sacrifices everything to give his family and community what they need. He’s exhausted from life and work—and he’s only twenty four. What he needs is some change, and some sunshine. Even he will agree to that. He just doesn’t expect to find it in a stuck up, pompous, entitled Californian.

Cami bursts into Stockton’s life like wildfire, consuming all his thoughts and tangling him in her web. What starts out as a contentious rivalry evolves into a desire neither of them expected. When hammer meets metal, will they crack under pressure or be forged as one?

Cami and Stockton might just end up being exactly what the other one needs, but first their love will have to be drawn out in fire.

I have read many books by both authors, and loved most of them. Actually, Rachel Higginson's Star Crossed series is probably my favorite of all time. Here's the thing, I know most people could care less about swearing and sex, and if that is you then feel free to stop reading now. This review is for those of us who prefer our books a little more on the clean side. So that being said, that is partly what I love about these authors. Mostly their books have some cursing and a little sexual tension, along with an awesome story line. This book has A LOT of cursing, and sexual innuendos galore! Holy frick, I had to stop reading, because I got tired of the visual thoughts they kept having about each other in bed. They didn't even like each other! I mean, my husband and I have AWESOME chemistry, always have, but good grief, pretty sure I was able to have things on my mind besides sex when we weren't even dating yet (I was 20 when we dated, so I was pretty much the same age as the female character here). Anyway, I am rating this for those of us who look for this type of review when we want to buy a book (how clean it is). Had these things been toned down, I probably would have really liked the book, as it was I didn't finish it.

    5.0 von 5 Sternen Fantastic collaboration 2. September 2013

I was given the opportunity to read Striking (Forged in Fire) on an ARC and I am so glad I did ! The story is not the usual genre or plot I would have gone for so I may have missed out on this fab book if not for this.

Cami is not your typical entitled Beverley Hills brat. Yes, she IS pampered and over-indulged, living a strange pseudo-life that many would like to emulate but most of us could never relate to. She parties hard, going steadily off the rails. But Cami is disillusioned with her empty (and lonely) lifestyle, the pressure to conform and follow in the footsteps of her spoilt, shallow older sister who thinks rehab is just another word for the health spa. Her stinking rich but emotionally-absent parents are a major part of the problem and Cami's latest attention-seeking escapade leaves her mother's upmarket boutique windowless, and her creepy date less one very expensive car. This earns her exile to the back of beyond for a Summer spell of hard labour on her aunt and uncle's farm - her mother and father's attempt to show that they do really care about Cami and want to give her time and space to sort herself out, away from all the things that are making her unhappy. Even if they can't actually SAY it. But it really doesn't feel like that to Cami.

Cue hot, Hillbilly love interest in the form of local blacksmith Stockton, and the complete antithesis of the life Cami has come from. Did I say smoking hot ???? And brooding. Seriously brooding. Solid, reliable, decent, with a real sense of responsibility and obligation. Plagued by guilt over his parents' death in a barn fire two years ago, Stockton has given up on his hopes and dreams of expanding, and puts all his energy into carrying on his father's legacy - the small-town blacksmith business he built up, the church and the community that he contributed massively to, and the intent and integrity inherent in everything he did. Not to mention Stockton's younger brothers and sister, the family left behind when their parents died, which Stockton has taken it upon himself to continue to raise as though they were his own.

So, understandably, it's like mixing oil with water when these two first meet. Despite this they instantly recognise something in each other, something unsettling yet compelling, and before long the sparks really are flying (did you spot what I did there.....did you ?). Irrespective, or maybe even because of their differences, the pull between them is magnetic. Cami is drawn into Stockton's life and he into hers, but whilst discovering each other both must undertake their own personal journey of self-discovery. It will change them irrevocably, and this may be the making or breaking of them.

I want to tell you more, I REALLY do. But I can't be that cruel as to take away the pleasure of finding out for yourself - you just NEED to read it. It's a brilliant collaboration between two amazing writers, a story that had me nursing my aching heart and wiping away the tears during the incredibly moving parts, then grinning from ear to ear triumphantly through the rest. Rachel and Lila wrote alternating chapters, but their writing complements each other's so that the story is seamless, as well as bringing their own little flavour that just leaves you wanting more. I'm already familiar with Rachel's other work, she just writes heartache and emotion sooooooooo well - god, this woman kills me - whilst Lila's humour is sass personified, making me wish I WAS that girl (or boy!), in THAT scene, saying THOSE words, and feeling THOSE things.

This is a fantastic read, and I could not put it down until I knew how it would end. And then I felt sad that I didn't have that to look forward to. Great books do this to us, and the fantastic news is that Rachel and Lila intend to write further parts to this series, about some of the secondary characters - I can't wait to see if there will be one for Stockton's adorable little sister and Cami's BFF, Willa ! Knowing how quickly these ladies write, that means we probably won't have too long to wait, but in the meantime I think I may just have to read this again. And again. And again. Seriously, it was that good, and definitely one I will be keeping on my Kindle for a long time to come.

Well done ladies, soooooooo looking forward to more from you !

5.0 von 5 Sternen Old Fashion Romance 2. September 2013

Let me just start by saying I was a bit skeptical at first. I simply ADORE Lila Felix and everything she does and I mean EVERYTHING! I hadn't read any of Rachel Higginson's work (boy is that changing!) and I wasn't sure how this collaboration would work. Every author has their own style. Well, let me tell you this works. This books pages flow effortlessly. It was amazing to read how two different authors can come together and create magic. It's been so long since I've read a good old fashion romance and these two deliever it! Cami, our heorine of the story, has had some not so stellar moments in her life and is sent to live with her aunt and uncle in a small town in Tennessee. This is where we meet Stockton (love that name!). Stockton is unfortunately reeling from his parents death, running his Father's business, and taking care of his siblings. When Cami and Stockton meet all is not well between them but, the chemistry is undeniable. It was so wonderful to see their romance blossom. One of my favorite swoon worthy moments is when Stockton visits Cami after her aunt and uncle go to sleep. He sits on a stool outside her window and they talk to each other about anything and everything. I LOVE that! This couple and their story was like a breath of fresh air! Please don't hesitate to get this gem of a book. The characters, the swoon worthy movements (you get to experience a few of those!) watching two people find themselves its quite an experience. I simply love this book and can't wait for the second book. You get a sneak peak of what's coming next at the end of this one. Get the book I promise you won't regret it!!!!!!
**** I was given an ARC of this book for an honest review.****

Two of my fav authors worked together to make an awesome book.

Rachel was the female voice and Lila was the male, which she's incredibly good at. It flowed great, the romance was awesome and swoony, the fighting was realistic and heartbreaking, the tears I cried were real and I felt for these characters so much. Their family was awesome, too. It was all my favorite things and I even found myself going back and re-reading the part where they caved for each other all over again. It was that good. I'm still thinking about it.

    6 out of 5 stars.

2.0 von 5 Sternen Not so sure about this one 2. September 2013

I'm not so sure that co-written books are really my thing. Maybe that was part of the problem of this book for me, but maybe this book just caught me on a bad day. Rachel Higginson...well, she's my jam, but I've never read anything by Lila Felix. Higginson writes the female's point of view in this book and Felix writes the male's point of view.

Felix's style just wasn't for me. Her overuse of pet names (the Hero constantly called the heroine 'Duchess') was pretty creep-tastic. Every time it happened, it ruined the vision of the hot, muscled, sweaty blacksmith I was supposed to have in my mind for him. It seems like a pet name a creepy old man would give to young girl...yucky. The hero was also a little too flowery in his descriptions of her. I don't like my book boyfriends to sound like Lord Byron, but that is a personal preference, and I completely realize this.

These things were relatively small issues for me, but the plot line was the reason I only give the book two stars. Nothing really happens beyond the first couple of chapters. The heroine goes on a date with a guy that makes it clear she has to put out, so she steals his car, drives it drunk, and smashes it into a store front. End all real action.

The rich socialite gets sent to a sheep farm, where, I feel like, things could've gotten REALLY funny. At one point, she is wearing heels trying to get sheep from one pasture to the other, but this comic gold mine was completely glossed over in favor of the hero waxing eloquent about how hot she is. The book would've been more entertaining if the authors had played up the humor a little more and laid off the poetry.

"She was so beautiful, I kept checking the horizon, making sure the sky hadn't fallen in her presence."

Nope. I don't care about that ^^ Give me the action, give me the funny, give me a reason to like any of these characters. I just didn't find it here, which is super disappointing for such a hard core Higginson fan. I will never stop reading everything she puts out because most of the time, its a story I will read over and over again, but this just wasn't for me. Although, I will note that tons of other people have loved it, so maybe its just a 'me' thing!
