Inhalt:
- The Streisand Allure
- Making up Barbra 1960-1963
- Broadway Baby, TV Star 1964-1967
- Movie Star 1968-1970
- Natural Girl 1970-1975
- A Star is reborn 1976-1982
- Visions 1983-1997
- National Treasure 1998-2013
- Ack now Ledgments
- Further reading
- Photography Credits

Qualitativ hochwertiger Bildband, der für mich auch reichlich neue Bilder beinhaltet (Seitenanzahl: 287).

Gorgeous Hard Cover Collection of Rare Photos of Barbra 14. Oktober 2014
Von Matt Howe - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe
I finally got to sit down and spend some time with James Spada's lovely new Streisand coffee table book from Abrams Books.

Streisand: In the Camera Eye easily distances itself from more recent Streisand photo books with its very rare collection of photographs of the subject, as well as the informed and accurate text that accompanies them. Spada is no stranger to Streisand's tale, and his text—not quite a biography, but more like a historical sketch of Streisand's career—illustrates the top-notch photos throughout the book.

Since the introduction states that Streisand is a fine photographer's model, and the book's title even mentions the camera, it's fitting that Spada has included some great quotes from some of the photographers who've worked with Streisand and whose photos are in this book. We hear from Doug Kirkland, Scavullo, Mario Casilli and more.

Spada also sprinkles quotes from critics on the pages of Streisand: In the Camera Eye, which are fun to read in context of the photos they illustrate.

But mostly it's the photos here that impress. The quality and clarity are much better than some of those other photo books out there now. Barbra's clear blue eyes are striking in photo after photo. Spada has collected some rare photos here, too! The scans of Craig Simpson's color negatives of 18-year-old Barbra are revelatory. The Clear Day turban headress photos are exquisite (even a couple I've never seen before!) And some of the 1970s photographs are gorgeous, including Casilli photos of Barbra in her Wet hot tub, and a striking portrait of Barbra in fur during The Main Event.

A handsome hard cover book (its sleeve comes off and reveals a Craig Simpson portrait of Barbra on the cover, too!), I think any Streisand fan is really going to enjoy this one.

A Beautiful Book 15. Oktober 2014
Von Joseph P. Naughton - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe Verifizierter Kauf
Yes, you can. Well, in this case anyway. Judge a book by its cover. I’m not sure if the saying originated as “You cannot judge a book by its cover” or “You should not judge a book by its cover” but whatever the original verbiage, no need to worry about that when you pick up ‘Streisand: In the Camera Eye”. Intrigued as you will be by the Cecil Beaton portrait on this book’s cover, the intrigue lies ahead, in this collection of photographs masterfully curated by best-selling author James Spada and given the kid-glove production it deserves from book publisher Abrams.

Although the 170 portraits and candid shots of Miss Streisand can speak for themselves, Spada writes a breezily engaging commentary tracing the star’s career that brings you from page to page, and has taken the time and care to speak with some of the photographers and shares their thoughts and insights, fully rounding out the experience of stargazing.

If the camera loves Barbra, it must be stated that she, in turn, loves the camera. She must. Not as a narcissist but as an artist who understands and obliges whatever medium in which she is presently engaged. To some it might seem a long jump from standing in front of your bathroom mirror to sitting for Cecil Beaton or Francesco Scavullo but for Barbra it appears to be a lovely, graceful step. Or as Beaton, who designed the sets and historical costumes for “On A Clear Day You Can See Forever” is quoted in the book says, “She is an ideal mannequin and compelling actress in elegant period costumes. Her face is a painting from several historical eras. She is a self-willed creation.”

And Spada works well to remind us that there were two people in the room, and includes many insightful comments from those photographers with whom he was able to speak.

When Barbra Streisand joined Instagram in August of 2014 she made news. Network, cable, basic-cable, bloggers, tweets - you name it, she made it. In this era of selfie-portraits and snap-chats and file sharing and photo-shopping and photo-bombing and cloud hacking and everything else I haven’t mentioned, the idea of a beautiful, coffee table book illustrating the career of a beloved movie star might seem a bit quaint. Well, what’s wrong with quaint? I, for one, have grown a bit tired of seeing laptops, gaming controls, bowls of potpourri, cutting boards and whatever else is crowding the tops of coffee tables these days. You might as well display a worthy book on it, now that everyone is drinking their coffee on the streets anyway.

So go ahead, judge this book by its cover. And when the judging is over, slip off the dust jacket and relish the hardcover “case” photo by Craig D. Simpson. Your coffee table will thank you.

Rare photos tell the Streisand story 14. Oktober 2014
Von S. LaBarbera - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe
October 14, 2014 - Noted New York Times best selling author James Spada has been documenting the career of Barbra Streisand for decades. His latest book on the subject is "Streisand: In the Camera Eye" and is being released today.

Spada's newest publication is a smartly crafted pictorial which tells the Streisand story as seen through the lenses of some of the world's most gifted photographers. "Streisand: In the Camera Eye" contains a collection of 170 high quality images, many of which have never been previously published.

Spada has divided his book into various Streisand career segments and uses the images of such world class photographers as Francesco Scavullo, Cecil Beaton and Bob Willoughby to further document the amazing story of Streisand's life and career.

The collection of images contained in the book is not just a delight to look at. The sheer artistry through which Barbra is rendered by each photographer tells a unique story.

A stunning image of Barbra, taken by Oscar winner Cecil Beaton during the time of "On A Clear Day" graces the cover (above) and captures Barbra at her most regal.

A series of captivating Scavullo photos features Barbra and Kris Kristofferson shot during the period of "A Star Is Born." It transports us back to one of the most successful eras in Barbra's career.

Mario Casilli's 1979 photo shoot (for Barbra's album "Wet") and his series of 1982 images used in the film "Nuts" show Barbra at her most serene, sultry and ultra sexy.

Images from the earliest portion of Barbra's career are represented by rarely seen candids taken by the likes of Bob Willoughby and David Drew Zingg. Willoughby's 1963 shot of Barbra in the Beverly Hills Hotel pool and Zingg's Look Magazine outtakes capture Barbra at the precipice of a career that is about to take a meteoric rise.

To complete his Streisand photographic journey, Spada includes the recent work of several news photographers as well. In a section called "National Treasure" you'll find captivating images of Barbra performing in Brooklyn, socializing in Washington, D.C., paying tribute in Los Angeles to Marvin Hamlisch, and being honored at Lincoln Center in New York.

If you like reading about Barbra Streisand, and if you appreciate looking at rare, high caliber photos of Barbra, then be sure to add "Streisand: In the Camera Eye" to your collection.

It's the best of both worlds, presented as one.

WORTH EVERY PENNY 10. Dezember 2014
Von Clifford Chappell - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe
Well produced photos, period!!
I didn't pre-order because I have so much stuff.
We were at the Barnes and Nobles waiting for our cell phone to be fixed($225),
so we browsed and came up with Judi Dench"s "Behind The Scenes" and some
DVDs. So I asked the guy if this Streisand book was here. It was on display so it took them a while to find.
20% off and I nabbed it!
Well, I can't stop looking at it, thank you, James Spada, Streisand expert extraordinaire!
Finally seeing beautiful editions of beautiful photos of a unique and naturally talented American legend.
Congratulations to Barbra for being a successful business woman and not succumbing to intoxicants and bad relationships!!
