Kurzbeschreibung

Lisa Kerry witnesses a private death squad attack street kids close to her bookstore. When the police take no action, she vows to purge Rio of the ruthless killers. To keep him out of the line of fire, she must quell her affection for the one man cut out to exorcise the demons of her past. Drawing strength and rage from the abuse she suffered as a young girl in a juvenile detention center, Lisa closes in on her marks.

Unable to get to the rich and powerful leader of the recreational killers, she enlists the older brother of one of her street urchin friends—a drug lord. Lisa's pursuit of justice spirals into a violent struggle to survive, for herself, her young charges, and the man she loves.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A heart-stopping adventurous glide over Rio. 21. September 2012
Von Fieldcene
Format:Kindle Edition
What a great story. I think a man would enjoy this just as much as a woman. The down-to-earth writing style of this novel makes reading a pleasure. No stopping to work out what something means—just let the story whisk you away to Rio de Janeiro.

More or less at peace with her life, Lisa Kerry runs a bookshop. When a group of street kids slip into an old workshop at the back of her bookstore, their plight forces her to take a fresh look. Locals don't want the strays around their properties and killers take pot-shots at them for sport. Amongst the tourists, a rugged American wanders into the shop. She agrees to guide Tony around the city and takes him to the top of Sugar Loaf for a spectacular view.

Memories of past abuse rise to haunt her while she battles her attraction to Tony. When the corrupt police show no interest in preventing the death of the street kids, Lisa takes up arms to protect the youngsters. She faces a choice: stop the killers at gun point or let the annoyingly determined American heal her troubled mind.

This adventure carried me through the beauty and degradation of Rio de Janeiro in a wild ride akin to Lisa's jump off the cliff with Tony to paraglide in the uplift beneath the stretched arms of the Christo Redentor statue.
The ending is fantastic. My chest is still tight from tension.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Loved it! 7. November 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
I loved reading this book. Mainly because of the characters. There are all kinds of shades.
Innocent ones, good ones bordering on evil, and pure psychopaths. The latter ones are dealt with by Lisa, the main character. Traumatized herself by horrifying childhood experiences, she only wants to bring some peace to her surroundings, the city of Rio de Janeiro.
Lisa struggles to make it a place where kids can live undisturbed, without having to experience violence and poverty. She not only gives shelter to a group of street kids, but also sets out to stop some evil characters from killing homeless kids for pure fun.
At the same time, Lisa has to deal with her inner daemons to let love and joy into her life. When she meets Tony, a business man from the US, she is challenged by her feelings and has to take on the fight against her flashbacks.
The story itself is gripping and a page turner, not only due to many thrilling scenes. You can feel on every page that the author put a lot of work and her heart into it. She surely did a profound research on the scenery and topic.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Must Read.. Gritty Gutsy Edge of Seat Thriller 7. Oktober 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Strays of Rio is a FIVE STAR `must read' thriller.

From the first page the tension begins to wind up. The gritty, gutsy heroine Lisa Kerry has a dark past of her own. Now she offers a better future to a group of kids making their way through life on the streets of Rio. She isn't to know the offer draws each of the group into the sights of a deadly adversary.

Strays of Rio explores the line between right and wrong, with realistic emotions, experiences, drama. Without dwelling on the tragedy of life on the streets, Strays of Rio involves the reader in an uplifting look at how a simple act of charity can improve life. Living with choices though, takes determination. Caught in a war between drug lords and corrupt police, Lisa and her courageous collection of strays find survival calls for desperate measures.

Strays of Rio is tightly written. Edith Parzefall takes us to Rio, where we become immersed in the beauty and the danger of everyday life. The characters each bring to the intriguing plot their own problems, backgrounds and goals. Once the scene is set, Parzefall's novel accelerates to an edge of the seat ride.

My advice is to grab a copy now, set aside a few hours because once you enter the streets where the Strays of Rio takes place, you are not going to be able to put this one down. Don't expect to emerge unscathed, Strays of Rio will leave you thinking. The sign of a great story.

To be released on the International Day of Peace, it is fitting that Strays of Rio explores the characters' desperate attempts to provide themselves with a peaceful future.

Strays of Rio is set in a world we know exists but would rather forget as we go about our safe and secure lives. Edith Parzefall delivers a well researched story that is guaranteed to satisfy and impress.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Scarred, Scared, Stalked. A Social Statement. 21. September 2012
Von Calamity - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Strays of Rio is an action packed thriller in which homeless children are targets of a private death squad, and their protector is at risk from an unknown stalker.

Scarred by her own abusive childhood, bookstore owner Lisa Kerry shelters a group of homeless children in fashionable Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro, from the private death squad hunting them down. Acting on her vow to protect the street urchins and rid the city of the killers, Lisa is drawn into the terrifying world of drug lords and corrupt officialdom, and she takes us with her.

Lisa is a tortured young woman who resembles Lisbet Salandar, but with a softer side. She finds her purpose in life, but the purpose could destroy her body and soul at the very moment she is discovering love for the first time, awakened in her by a handsome, persistent American. Her determination to avenge the street kids threatens to compromise her integrity and her chance for happiness.

As we ride through the streets of Rio, frozen in fear with Lisa, the author, Edith Parzefall, makes us question our own values. Faced with the terrifying plight of street urchins, how far would we go for a principle? Would we turn a blind eye or, like Lisa, become vigilantes risking our own morals and safety and those of the one man who loves us, in our quest for retribution? With moments of incredible warmth as well as edge-of-the-seat horror, Strays of Rio is a novel of striking contrasts: wealth and poverty; the powerful and powerless; the honest and corrupt; hunter and hunted, but what is most shocking is that these opposing forces can be switched on and off in the same person, good or bad. This is a violent book right from the beginning and it is unnervingly real.

If you've never visited Rio de Janeiro, just open the pages of Edith Parzefall's novel, Strays of Rio. She transports you there and immediately you become part of the exotic scene. From the police on the beaches to the capuchin monkeys in the bars, to the affluent houses within view of the hillside favelas (shanty towns), the setting absorbs you. Drug lords rule the favelas, but these impoverished communities are so dangerous one drug lord insists his young brother must live on the street in a gang with other urchins, for his own safety. The characters have real personalities, real concerns and real agendas and the grubby little thieves have a way of getting under your skin. That's what endeared the street kids to me.

Strays of Rio is a most worthwhile book, timely and topical, especially since the city is being cleaned up in time for the Olympics of 2016. This story needs to be heard if street children everywhere are to be valued, protected and cared for. I highly recommend it.

5.0 von 5 Sternen An Author to Watch. Strays of Rio is Exceptional 25. Oktober 2012
Von Arlie Ann - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
Strays of Rio is one of the best written suspense novels I've picked up in a long time. It flows seamlessly, the pace is excellent and I can't get the characters out of my head. The realism is frightening, the love shown for others as wonderful as the horror of those who kill and torture so easily is gut wrenchingly factual.
The author throws wide open the curtain to show the darkest parts of humanity without a single misstep into lecture or spelling out things the reader gets by the tight dialogue and heart pounding action. Every line, every word pushes the plot forward so the reader follows along while flipping pages frantically to see what happens.
The evil side of those who prey on children forced to live on their own, in poverty and neglect in such a corrupt society, is shown with such realistic setting you can't help but hate this world, but then the good shines through taking the story to the level of an unforgettable romance that has a genuine heroine who gets the job done the best she can without hesitation, making Lisa stand out as a character I find tops the list of one of the best female characters I've read.
