Kurzbeschreibung

10. Juni 2014
#1 New York Times bestselling author Johanna Lindsey returns to the dazzlingly passionate world of the Malorys, an aristocratic family of rakehell adventurers and spirited ladies, in a thrilling new tale of unbridled desires.

James Malory sets sail for America to honor a promise he made to his in-laws: His and Georgina’s daughter, Jacqueline, will have her come-out in America. Judith and Jacqueline Malory are not simply cousins; they are inseparable best friends. Refusing to miss Jacqueline’s come-out in Connecticut, Judith convinces her parents to let her delay her London debut by a few weeks so she can accompany her cousin. Neither girl intends to fall in love during her first Season. But Judith’s plans are overturned when aboard ship she comes face-to-face with the ghost who has been haunting her dreams.

Unknown to the Malorys, deckhand Nathan Tremayne is a smuggler with a noose around his neck. Determined to carry out a covert mission in America that could gain him a pardon, Nathan senses that beautiful Judith Malory is trouble. Somehow the minx knows his secret—and now she’s blackmailing him into doing her bidding. While passions can soar on the high seas, Nathan knows this aristocratic beauty is merely amusing herself with a scoundrel like him.

When the unthinkable happens in Connecticut and the elder Malorys’ hands are tied, Nathan takes command of a dire situation. Captaining his own ship, he turns the tables on Judith, as he steers them into some intense Caribbean heat where he will fight with all his mettle to win the right to her heart.

Pressestimmen

"This is the story Malory pirate fans have been waiting for, and this consummate storyteller doesn't disappoint. There's adventure, sensuality, battles, storms, family high jinks and rapier wit. Best of all are the father-daughter relationships that add humor and pathos--and if that isn't enough, there's a slew of Malory family members to satisfy everyone who wants to see their old friends in new adventures as a new generation makes waves. Lindsey delivers!" (Romantic Times)

"The Malorys are the family everyone wishes they had, so returning to their world is like entering a bit of heaven. The way Lindsey expertly writes a seductive battle of wills love story is magic; love, laughter, adventure and passion collide as childhood foes become lovers." (Romantic Times (Top Pick) on That Perfect Someone) -- Dieser Text bezieht sich auf eine andere Ausgabe: Gebundene Ausgabe .

5.0 von 5 Sternen Worth the Wait! 11. Juni 2014
Von Paranormalibrarian - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

After the disappointment of the last several Johanna Lindsey books, I was very hesitant to read this one, despite it being about my favorite family series ever. Even the last three Malory novels were not that great, which almost made me think that perhaps Johanna Lindsey wasn’t writing them, and had employed a ghost writer instead.

I’m delighted to admit I might be wrong. Stormy Persuasion reminded me why I fell in love with the Malory family and why I’ve been reading Johanna Lindsey novels since I was in the 8th grade. Is it as good as the first Malory novels? No. But it’s way better than anything she’s published in the past 10 years or so, and definitely worth the purchase price.

I love how different the personalities of Jack (Jacqueline) and Judith are. Jack is exactly like James, bold, brash, and says exactly what’s on her mind, and definitely the leader of the two. She wears breeches and goes barefoot on board the ship, fences, and probably can sail the ship just as good as her father and uncles can. Judith is much more feminine, preferring to wear dresses even as she admits their impracticality aboard a ship, and she’s definitely the optimist of the two, preferring to think the best out of everyone. Judith tempers her cousin’s rash behavior, and tries to get Jack to think before she speaks or acts.

Nathan is a likeable hero. He’s been dealt a bad hand in life—his father was a smuggler and died when Nathan was in his early twenties, just after the two had a falling out. Nathan’s sister has also recently died, and he is now the guardian of her two young daughters. And of course he’s managed to have his father’s smuggling ship, The Pearl, stolen by the man who killed him, another smuggler who happens to be the regency era version of a black market car dealer. He steals British ships, refits them and resells them in America as new or “gently used.” Right after Judith meets Nathan, he gets captured and is cut a deal by the British military—expose the man behind the ship stealing and he will be granted a full pardon for smuggling. Nathan needs to get to the U.S to capture the criminal—who fortunately runs the operation from Connecticut, and as luck has it, Judith’s uncle James’ ship is headed there in a few days.

Nathan and Judith have some pretty good chemistry together. They’ve already met twice before being aboard The Maiden George (James’ ship) and she correctly suspects him of being a smuggler. He’s fighting his attraction for Judith, and has to keep away from her father, who he may have actually knocked out in a tavern brawl the night before the ship left for Connecticut. James remembers Nathan from the fight, but of course seeing Tony get taken down endears Nathan to James. Nathan works as the ship’s carpenter, and there are several opportunities for Judith and Nathan to meet up privately throughout the voyage.

The only real annoyances with the book are Catherine and her brother Count Andrassy, who I really can’t go into too much detail without spoilers. I guess I’m irritated that they take up more pages than I think they should have, although they seem to play a big role in what will be Jack’s book.

Which is another point on why Stormy Persuasion was worth the read: it definitely harkens back to the earlier Malory novel formulas: just like James and Georgina’s story begins during Tony and Roslynn’s, it looks like the events in Jack’s book will take place during Judith’s and Nathan’s. And Jack’s story looks to be quite a doozy—we don’t know his name, but she keeps calling him “The Bastard.” LOVE her!

As my favorite Malory is and always will be James, I am delighted to say that he is just as awesome as ever. Tony too, but surprisingly we don’t get as much of him as I would have thought, since this is his daughter’s story. Tony does have some great moments in here though, so I wasn’t too disappointed.

So Malory fans, don’t fear! This book is well worth the wait and I’m hoping the next one will be just as delightful to read.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Looking forward to more. 11. Juni 2014

I've been a huge fan of the Malory books since I was a teenager, and was definitely looking forward to the new generations of Malory's. But as I'm older and a little more adjusted in what I enjoy in romance, I found Judith's POV to be slightly.. boring. I enjoyed the contrast between her and her cousin, Jack, but the romance aspect fell kind of flat for me.

But the one thing this book did was set up for future books in this generation, specifically Jacqueline Malory, which is one story that was incomplete in this novel and will hopefully be fleshed out in her own future novel. THAT book, I'm most definitely looking forward to. This one wasn't terrible, but I just didn't connect with Judith and felt that the novel itself was slightly underwhelming.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Improvement! 10. Juni 2014

Much closer to the Lindsey novels from long ago! However, it seems that so much time is spent and devoted to retelling history that it really took too much time away from the story between Judith and Nathan. Understanding that a little bit is necessary for readers who perhaps haven't come to know the Malory clan over the past 20-ish years, it still seemed excessive. I think it would be better to simply allude to the history rather than summarize it, and if the new readers care to learn the history, they can buy the books! ;)

It was nice though, to read two characters that did actually have a good deal of chemistry again. Three stars isn't quite enough, but four stars is just a little much. I do hope that the loose ends were left specifically for the purpose of the next Malory tale.

I have always loved Johanna Linsey's writing, though her recent books were not up to her usual standards, but I did not give up on her and was rewarded with a very entertaining book. The Mallory's are one of my favorite family's in historical romances, so I was glad that I got to visit with them and catch up, not enough to disrupt the story so that was also a good thing. Nathan and Judith are a cute couple and their courtship progresses at a good pace, you get to see them getting to know each other a little and liking what they see, which was important because they each had preconceived notions of one an other. We have the added bonus of having a bit of adventure and danger beside the romance so that always good. The secondary characters play an important role in this story, Jack , Judith's cousin and best friend in particular because it seems she is going to have her own adventure, or so I hope! On an aside, if you decide to read this book which I recommend you do, when you are done go to the beginning of the series and get to know the Malory's to me the first 3 where the best, my personal favorite was James's story which is the 3rd book I think. Enjoy!

5.0 von 5 Sternen New Generation of Malorys 10. Juni 2014
Von S. Melo - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

STORMY PERSUASION is the eleventh book in the Malory Family Series. It is the story of Judith Malory, the daughter of Anthony and Ros from TENDER REBEL. Judith is eighteen and ready for her coming out, but her beloved cousin Jack is going to have her debut in America to satisfy the promise that Jack's father made to his brothers-in-law. Judith pleads to go with her cousin.

While sailing to America, Judith encounters Nathan Tremayne, who is sailing as the ship's carpenter. Judith recognizes Nathan as a smuggler and holds it over his head while demanding answers. Under the nose of her father and get other relatives, Judith and Nathan get to know one another.

There are villains at work in this book and the story kept me turning pages. As a fan of the series, I found this book very satisfying. There are plenty of appearances of the characters from the series and fans well be pleased at how this story integrates the history of the series but doesn't overburden the story.

Judith and Nathan are a cute couple. They are first toward one another and both are caring people. I liked that the two got to know one another during the voyage. It reminded me of a house party on a boat.

I also liked that Judith had her own personality and she is not a clone of the Malory women who have come before her. I also liked that the Malory and Anderson men are thoughtful about their reaction to Nathan and judge him based on their own development rather than being hypocrites.

Finally, I absolutely cannot wait for Jack's story which begins here. It is appropriate that Judith and Jack's books are connected in the same way that Anthony and James's books were.

I'd rate this one as a 4.5.
