Kurzbeschreibung

24. April 2012
Conservative radio host and syndicated columnist Dennis Prager provides a bold, sweeping look at the future of civilization with Still the Best Hope, and offers a strong, cogent argument for why basic American values must triumph in a dangerously uncertain world. Humanity stands at a crossroads, and the only alternatives to the “American Trinity” of liberty, natural rights, and the melting-pot ideal of national unity are Islamic totalitarianism, European democratic socialism, capitalist dictatorship, or global chaos if we should fail.  America is Still the Best Hope, as this eminently sensible, profoundly inspiring volume so powerfully proves.

Buchrückseite

In this visionary book, Dennis Prager, one of America's most original thinkers, contends that humanity confronts a monumental choice. The whole world must decide between American values and its two oppositional alternatives: Islamism and European-style democratic socialism.

Prager—a bestselling author, columnist, and nationally syndicated radio talk show host who is read and heard by millions of people in America and abroad—makes the case for the American value system as the most viable program ever devised to produce a good society. Those values are explained here more clearly and persuasively than ever before.

Still the Best Hope deals with three huge themes: The first is perhaps the most persuasive explanation for why Leftism has been and will always be a moral failure, despite its acknowledged appeal to many people of goodwill. The second explains why fundamentalist Islam, despite its historic and growing appeal, cannot make a good society. But Prager holds out hope for an open and tolerant Islam and explains why it will emerge from faithful American Muslims. The third is a singularly persuasive defense and explanation of what Prager calls the "American Trinity": liberty, values rooted in the Creator, and the melting-pot ideal. These values are inscribed on every American coin as "Liberty," "In God We Trust," and "E Pluribus Unum," and they are the reasons for America's greatness. Without them, America will cease to be an exceptional nation, and therefore cease to be America.

Prager shows why these values can and must be adopted by every nation and culture in the world, why Americans must relearn and recommit to these values, and why America must vigorously export them. For if the world does not adopt American values, the result will be chaos and barbarism on an unprecedented scale.

Prager needs nearly the whole book to polemicize over 400 pages, why, what he calls leftists and islamists, are going wrong, but only 75 about the title-promised theme of the book, what he calls "still the best hope", the American way of life. And these 75 pages about the proper theme are the weakest of the whole book.
So he misses the point at all.
The most of his informations are wrong, for example, that leftists (in German "Linke") never call themselves left. That's totally nonsense, we have (like in other countries) a party, called exactly "Die Linke". The socialdemocratic party defines herself as the "left middle" since cancellor Schroeder, but they never denied, that they are leftists.
Prager asks, why in Europe are only protests against the american politics happened and asserted, that f.e. there were no big demonstrations agaist the Chinese massacre on the Tiananmen-Square .
I walked inside one of these big demonstrations against this massacre, so he is totally wrong at this point, too.
It's not the right place to wrote all his "little" errors down here.
But he grounds his thesis on this fundament of wrong claims, so the whole thesis seems to be as wrong as most information you'll find in this book.
It's not worth the money to buy it and the time to read it.

Prager braucht fast das ganze Buch um über 400 Seiten zu polemisieren, warum die falsch liegen, die er Linke ("Leftists") und Islamisten nennt. Nur 75 Seiten handeln über das vom Titel versprochene Thema was er "still the best hope" nennt, den American way of life. Und diese75 Seiten sind die schwächsten des ganzen Buches.
Thema verfehlt.

5.0 von 5 Sternen American Exceptionalism Explained 24. April 2012
Von Marc Jacobs - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
This book explains why the American Value System is superior. In fact, this book explains precisely what the American Value System is. Of course, conservatives will read this book with great enthusiasm. Conservatives will nod their head in agreement and simply enjoy the clarity of Mr. Prager's arguments. The intended audience for this book includes our liberal Democrat friends, relatives and neighbors. It is hard to imagine intelligent, open-minded and thoughtful readers of this book not being deeply affected by the ideas presented here. I believe that if every American who usually votes Democratic did read this book - the political landscape would change one reader at a time as the book is read and absorbed. I wish every member of our government would read this book. I wish every member of the media would read this book. I wish every religious leader in America would read this book. I wish every high school student with a thirst for knowledge would read this book. That is my dream of things that never were and me asking, "Why not?"

5.0 von 5 Sternen The American book I've been waiting for. 27. April 2012
Von christenoel - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

I am a graduate student at Penn State and have been looking for a book like this to help me stand against the Marxist/leftist thoughts in my classes. Most people in my classes are almost remorseful to be American and act as though every other country is somehow more noble and better than ours. This book explains why American values are the greatest elements to build a country, and why we should strive to restore our values within our country & share our values with the world.

5.0 von 5 Sternen The Statue of Liberty in hardcover! 25. April 2012
Von Dov Greenberg - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
Still the Best Hope, is the Statue of Liberty in hardcover. No other book combines such sharp insights into America's current state. No other book is at once so deep and so sensible, so succinct and so comprehensive, so American and so universal. In this extraordinary book, Dennis Prager, argues that the global social and political crisis of the 21st century is really an intellectual crisis. That is, a battle of ideas between American values and their alternatives. There is nothing partisan or one-sided about his argument. He makes his case fairly, lucidly, and persuasively. His book moves with a kind of worried grace probing the difference between liberal and conservative thought, and he has something urgent to teach the people on either side. Prager's sweeping analysis is a grand tour of American values. And the power these values have to light a torch of hope and liberty in a dark world.
