For business statistics courses taught in Economics and Business Schools A classic text for accuracy and statistical precision. Statistics for Business and Economics enables students to conduct serious analysis of applied problems rather than running simple "canned" applications. This text is also at a mathematically higher level than most business statistics texts and provides students with the knowledge they need to become stronger analysts for future managerial positions.

Too many typos in the worst places 27. Dezember 2010
Von Jaewoo Kim - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe Verifizierter Kauf
As others have already mentioned, this book has too many typos in all the wrong places such as equations. In the page 229, for example, the equation for variance is all minus signs when they should all be pluses. More than once, I have spent couple of hours trying to figure out why my answers were wrong only to find out it was because my answers were based on the wrong equation given by the book.

FYI, not all books have the typo problem. It appears the typo issue has been fixed but there are many earlier prints, like mine, that have this problem.

This is not a beginner's book. Rather, it appears to have been written for intermediate (non-calculus) statistics class. The book's explanations of Central Limit Theorem and others are fairly solid and the authors' writing styles are very fluid. The book does not necessarily look like a mishmash of different authors writing with totally different writing styles, and that is not easy to do when writing a book with multiple authors. So I give kudos to the authors for the overall quality of their writing.

If you a total beginner in statistics, I recommend "Humonguous Book on Statistics". If you are looking to improve your basic knowledge on statistics without going into advance calculus-level statistics, then this is a decent book except for the typos.

I would also like to see a workbook companion as this book's explanations of solutions are very skimpy.

If not for the typos, I would have given this book 4 to 4.5 stars.

Caution! Too many typos 8. Dezember 2010
Von Mike - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe Verifizierter Kauf
Wrong equations, wrong solutions in the back and many typos in the actual content of this book encourage me to give it a worse review than 2 stars. There was some relevant information applicable to the real world which is why it deserves at least 1 star. This book is for amateur statisticians and the typos can really mislead the intended audience. I wouldn't recommend spending the amount of money if you have a choice. In general the book is just poorly put together. There are many chapters with the same information and some chapters have major jumps back and forth. This book also repeats itself a lot and, given the amount of typos, it tends to contradict itself. I wouldn't waste your time with spending a fortune on this.

Too many typos 14. Oktober 2010

Seems like a good book. However one thing that put me off is the number of typos. Almost every chapter has 2 or 3 typos. And not just spelling errors - incorrect formulas and reference to the wrong tables/figures etc. I have never seen so many typos in a test book.
Can be very confusing.
Overall a decent intro to Statistics from a business point of view.

Excellent examples, weak in theory 27. November 2010
Von Kairat Mynbayev - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe
Pros: This text thoroughly covers most statistical topics. For each topic it has multiple motivating and solved examples. The number of exercises is large enough to satisfy instructors who teach large classes. Given the number of tables, plots and the sheer volume of the book, it is hard to find anything better.
Cons: The book has a problem which is common for many undergraduate texts. Most formulas and facts are not proved or derived. Therefore even a small typo creates misunderstanding. In the first three chapters the simplification reaches the level that the exercises become confusing even for an experienced reader. The whole approach hinges on memorizing the formulas. Since the logic behind the formulas is not explained and the algebraic training is sporadic, most students are lost after the first five chapters. For those instructors who are willing to teach (and those students who are willing to study) at a higher level, the way out is to use the Companion for "Statistics for Business and Economics", see [...] or [...]. It's a better option than whining about this textbook.

written by machines for machines 19. Oktober 2012
Von Amazon Customer - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

If this book is supposed to help you want to bang your head against a wall, it's perfect. If you want to learn about statistics, be prepared for a book that was written by people who haven't talked to a non-statistician in 20 years and have no desire to talk to a non-statistician. If you need to learn stats as part of a course of study and haven't taken stats before, there are probably more accessible texts. If you want a challenge (albeit an incredibly boring read) then this is for you.
