English chess grandmaster Glenn Fear shares his years of experience, tips, and warnings, in clear prose with numerous sample games and diagrams. From dealing with a race, to maneuvering the king, to common mistakes and practical exercises, Starting Out: Pawn Endgames is an excellent resource to hone one's skill and learn more about the game itself.

Don't waste your money on this one

The numbers on the examples don't correlate with the numbers on the diagrams, and you have to fip forward and backward to figure out which explanation goes with which diagram. Besides this, the author simply isn't very good at explaining things. I recommend the pawn sections in both Pandolfini's and Robertie's endgame books. At least you can figure out what they're talking about.

Basically a good book. I have read the first 60 pages, though the author says starting out Pawn endgames some of the positions are sufficently complex where even the author gas erred in his analysis In ezample 81 Page 52 Kasparov - Leko the author correctly states after 1...f6 2.Kd3 e6 3.Kd4 g5 4.h5 Kd7 5 e4 Kc6 6 e5 f5 etc the position is a draw , however in the bye lines he says that after 1...f6 2.Kd3 e6 3.Kd4 temporising with 3...Kd7 is inaccurate futher saying that after 4.e4 Kc6 5.e5 f5 6.h5 white has a winning position however after 6...g5 The same position as in the main line after 6...f5 arises which move the author has not considered and the result is a draw. Again the complex nature of the positions considered can be seen from Example 80 The main line move 2.Kb4 only draws after 2...e5 which move is not considered by the author whereas a better move would be 2.g5 winning. Other than few analytical inaccuracies and complexity of some of the positions analyses, the book does a relatively good a good most ideas being covered
