getting started in hindi 27. Februar 2012

this beginners book has been very helpful in finally getting to know what and how the language is spoken and to be able to read with more understanding.. I would recommend it to anyone trying to learn the hindi language before trying anything else even Rossetta Stone.
the best choice for at-home Hindi learning 16. November 2014

I've been through a few teachers of Hindi, so I can really appreciate the knowledge and skill that's gone into the design of these CDs. Rupert Snell knows what he's doing--I can't emphasize this enough. One problem with many Indian-born teachers of Hindi is that they approach their task with outmoded methods. Not so Rupert Snell. He has behind him years of bringing Hindi to Westerners, which turns out to be an advantage for the learner. One is shown patterns, given clear explanations for the grammar, and then carefully helped to speak and write. Unlike many foreign language teachers, he knows that passive learning, in the end anyway, doesn't amount to much. Users of "Get Started" are encouraged to be active. And finally, for persons who don't plan to take on the Devanagari script (I'm one of those.), every recording includes transliteration. It's rare to find Hindi teaching material at this level which offers that.

I do love this course but not what Teach Yourself has done to it 2. Oktober 2010
Von S. Azzouz - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
If you have the original book, this is NO DIFFERENT. Just a different cover, some changes in the way the book looks inside by making some text bolder and rearranging the topics and a little clean up. The only good things about the new one is the binding is better and it seems less cluttered. Teach Yourself ought to be ashamed for charging more for a book that they just changed covers on and kept the same outdated content. Also, as in the other courses, for reasons not known, the beginning dialog does not match the pages! I don't know what is up with that and why they keep doing it with just about every single course.

The audio has been "refreshed", if you wanna call it that, by sound but the same people read the dialogs, the same material is gone over and in the same way; its funny, the same speakers, saying the material the same way but on a new format (CD instead of cassette). Just sad. What a waste of money for them to not just do a real updated product instead of trying to fool people and make them pay extra. I encourage other people, like I have, to protest to Teach Yourself on their website and on the phone(yeah, they do answer!). Don't be mean and rude (the whole "catching flies with honey" thing, you know what I mean?) but let them know how upset you are and tell them if they really DID do an upgraded product you would gladly love to buy it and encourage others to but if not, you will encourage others not to buy and you won't buy anymore of their products. Word of mouth can be very powerful.
Skip it if you are wanting to learn just enough for tourism. 8. Juli 2014

I've taught myself several languages, at a tourist level. Gave up on this CD and book quickly, as it didn't give me the practical basics I wanted in an easy, organized fashion. Get the "In Flight" series of any language you want to learn for traveling. That series will teach you maybe 400 very useful words and phrases - plenty to get by without feeling overwhelmed.
Hoping I can return this one.
Get Started in Hindi with two audio CDs: A Teach Yourself Guide 18. Mai 2014

the book is very good, and the CDs are very good also, the only thing is that I feel the voice of one of the ladies is not very warm, I would recommend for them to put more warmth in the way how they teach, I know it's a language they're teaching but it helps when what you listen is pleasant and warm!
